Detatching weapon movement from head movement

I am trying to rotate the marine weapon view models based on some angle data that I am getting from Hillcrest trackers. It seems like setting the attachpoint on the view model affixes it to the right hand of the marine. Without modifying the MAX models and exposing params what can I do to rotate that viewmodel (just care about the client side for now)?
