Unlock all tech while choosing commanders.

Title says it all. While we are choosing a comm it would be fun to unlock all tech and make it free. You want to fly around as a lerk? Do it. Want to use a jet pack and flame thrower? Do it. This would also help those that sit on servers 1/16 waiting to populate it. Practice fade, lerk, or just mess around in a dual exo.

Since no one dies in pre-game it couldnt hurt.

The downside is that it relieves some of the pressure to pick a comm and get going. If everyone is getting to play around with jetpacks and fades, even if they don't actually get to fight each other (or maybe especially because of that), players might be a little too distracted to pick a commander at all. I can really just see the game waiting to start for 10-20 minutes because the marine team is all "practicing" jetpacks, while the aliens sit there and wait with a comm already chosen.

If a comm isnt chosen then having fun toys wont hinder it further. It would be like saying let's not have unlimited time to choose a comm because games will never start. If no comm is chosen with in 5 mins people will leave with or without toys.

Frankly that IS the downside to the current system. Don't get me wrong I still think it's an improvement to when the game started before comms were chosen at all, but I still see games where no one wants to go com for ages. Before the current system the longest I ever saw a game run with no comm was 2 minutes. The question is is it better to essentially ruin the game by having no comm for 2 minutes or take 5 minutes to choose a com before game starts? Is it better to take 5 minutes to choose a com or 15 minutes because everyone is goofing off and having some fun instead of bitching about who is going to be comm why don't we have a comm yet someone comm already?

I prefer the current method instead of no comm being chosen. A game can be ruined in 2 minutes without a comm.

If it is such a problem to have people entertained during the choosing process why not freeze all controls? Have a simple yes or no come up on screen to comm. Keep having votes till someone says yes.

I have not seen a comm go undecided for more than 5 minutes tops. All tech imo opinion doesnt exasperate an already present issue of the comm role being highly visible and crucial for victory. Game breaking even when you are new.

Entry level comming is too high. No single player, no way to practice alone, and no default community accepted build order to go by. This is why choosing a comm can be difficult, not because players are distracted.

I'd like it if both teams were unable to leave their starting techpoint room at all during commander selection. We don't need a mini game before the proper game. We already have secret ready rooms for that.

I've seen a server mod on HBZ that starts the round timer after ONE team gets commander. It then gives the other team like a minute or half to get a comm as well, but the game will start in any case after that.

this idea is valid in my opinion but in case of people just messing around "practicing" there should be like a 5 minute timer to make sure people have a commander instead of messing around
