Why can't we rebind "NextWeapon" and "PreviousWeapon"

I hate it being on the mouse wheel, too scared to use it in combat for fear of over scrolling and getting my axe or something, can't we be allowed to rebind it to single pressed of say CapsLock? That way if I'm on my pistol I can double tap it to get back to rifle, single tap from rifle to pistol, etc.

If you say "just press 1" or "just press 2", no, no I don't want to, it's awkward in combat and I hate it, go away.

    Can confirm this happens a lot to me. Way more than it should. Or I just can't manage to get back to my main weapon. Granted, I'm not really sure rebinding would help my case... but it would be a nice feature.

    With only 3 weapon options at most 90% of the time it would make sense just to rebind the weapon selection keys. You could rebind 1-3 to whatever keys are more comfortable, or you can rebind up and down to whatever keys, scroll saves you one key but the few times you have that 4th weapon you are going to have to use the specifics.

    Rebind the weapons?

    Instead of 1,2,3, bind them to Q,E,F.
    Change your Use Key(How often do you use, the use key in combat?), and put the flashlight somewhere else.

    Edit:
    I should note that I've rebound the medpack/Heal me, Ammo/Enzyme, Evolve, Map, and talk keys to my mouse, and that my hands are big enough that I have no issues hitting the number keys in combat.

    I considered the QERF method from quake but it's hard with, calling for health, building, and flash light. I guess maybe I could rebind flash light as its not something I need to press much, but the other 2... Reload is on my mouse, I GUESS I could put health on my mouse too.

    EDIT: I'd like to point out that while rebinding the weapons is good and all, that doesn't answer why we're banned from changing the next/prev weapon binds

    I didn't know you were unable to rebind them, but I did unbind them... I think.

    Well, I've got a Razer naga so I have an extra 14 buttons on my mouse(Excluding RMB, LMB, and MMB) so that's why I've got so much stuff bound on my mouse.
    I also neglected to mention I have the evolve menu on my mouse.

    At one point I considered putting the weapon binds, and jump on the mouse but that left my offhand with less to do than my aiming hand.

    My only suggestion would be to rebind as much as you can, because like most games, the default binds in NS2 leave a lot to be desired.
    That is, they are the same default binds as every other PC FPS game.

    I wish you could rebind commander mode.

    I've rebound the following and I'm quite happy with them (still not being able to unbind mwheel is lame).

    1 = Ask for orders
    2 = Taunt
    3 = Flash Light
    Q = Weapon 1
    E = Weapon 2
    F = Weapon 3
    R = Use
    G = Drop Weapon
    C = Crouch (always has been)
    Mouse4 = Reload (always has been)
    Mouse5 = Ask for health

    It's actually much more comfortable to use.

    I hope your changes were done at my insistence. xD

    I also wanted to bind weapon 1 and weapon 2 to mousewheel but that wasn't possible :p. Had to use Q and E instead.

    Pretty much, I had been thinking about it though.

    if you have a logitech mouse, use the logitech software to rebind mouse down to key 1 and mouse up to key 2.

    I don't have a logitech mouse (ew logitech), I can do that with my mouse but I like having the ability to scroll, I'm not asking for work arounds, I'm asking why the hell we can't rebind some of the controls in the game. It's dumb.

    The devs have stated before that (not sure how this works) due to limitations, they have a limited number of keys they can bind the controls to. This can change, but requires some time to code in. I expect they will aim to have this done in the next few months.

    But they're ALREADY bound, you just don't have the option to change them, the variables exist...

    My Logitech G9 doesn't support this atleast. Mouse scroll is unbindable.

    I believe UW said that a rework of the keybinding system would likely be possible with the big February patch (aka Gorgeous). I guess it got pushed back.

    I hate hitting 1 only missing and hitting ~ instead, thereby opening up the console mid-battle. I managed to do that as a skulk in a gather and somehow managed to recover it and kill the remaining marine, I think they must have been so shocked to see me just stop dead on the spot in the middle of our battle that they just missed me for long enough to allow me back in. I'm pretty sure that lucky circumstance won't ever happen again!

    I use the scroll wheel and MAN is it ever annoying that pistol is UP instead of DOWN. In like... I don't know... every FPS game EVER (pretty much) SCROLL DOWN goes to your secondary weapon.

    I can't tell you how many times I have died to a skulk because I accidentally brought out my axe instead of my pistol...

    Dark ATi, you started a thread about this about 2 months ago. It's a shame we still haven't seen it, especially given how simple an idea it is. Key bindings are still a problem and as a commander I still cannot rebind the keys for it. Maybe in patch 243 or something we'll see key bindings...we can only hope.
