NS2 Updates everytime I reopen Steam.

Since the Gorgeous update, every time I close Steam and reopen it, NS2 goes through the entire Gorgeous update again. I am forced to leave Steam open after it updates if I want to play.

I have validated the files pre-auto updating and it updates NS2 completely, like it hasn't updated Gorgeous already. For example, if I run NS2 before it updates, I get the old splash menu screen. After updating, I get the Docking splash menu. When I close Steam, it starts all over again.
I have tried validating the files after it gets done updating, but if I close Steam and reopen it, it still updates all over again.
I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, but it still does the same thing.

The update simply does not "stick" after exiting Steam.

I'm guessing the only option I have is to disable automatic updates? Is there some simple fix that I am missing? I have looked EVERYWHERE and cannot find the solution.

*FIXED* I deleted all the Steam folders EXCEPT Steamapps and Userdata. Also left Steam.exe there. Restarted my PC, and ran Steam.exe (not the shortcut on the desktop). Steam updated and it seems to have fixed the problem. I did disable automatic updates again and everything seems to be fine now. Logged onto Steam this morning and NS2 is still updated. I will continue to have automatic updates disabled but I don't know whether or not that actually has anything to do with it this go around, but I'm not willing to enable it to find out.

Are you having any sort of problems with any other games or anything else on Steam updating, cause if so I want to believe this may be some sort of issue with Steam Cloud Sync.

Its just NS2. None of my other games do this.

I do know for sure that this is a common issue with games in Steam that happens all the time, and they constantly say they have "fixed" it.

Some possible things to look at:

1.) If you don't normally leave Steam on, try leaving it on overnight once.
2.) Shut down Steam, delete the ClientRegistry.blob file, and restart Steam.
3.) What language are you using for NS2? If you are using something other than the default, try messing around with that.
4.) Backup the game files the follow these procedures:
    - Make sure the game is currently uninstalled (delete the necessary files in the steamapps\common folder if necessary)
    - Copy the game folder to the steamapps\common folder
    - Install the game and Steam should detect the game. Steam will download any update/missing files.
5.) Possible disk failure. Check this by using the HD manufacturer test software or by running CHKDSK.

Otherwise, the only viable temp solution to this would be to set the game to update manually, then wait till a new update for the game comes out and check to see if it still happens.

I'm using the default language (English). I just tried turning off the automatic updates AND disabled cloud syncing and it STILL updates automatically. Guess I can try testing my HD.
