NS1 technical difficulties

Heya, I've played ns2 since christmas now, and have got the nostalgia itch for some good ol' ns1. However, after jumping into a few servers I constantly had serious fps issues making it unplayable (the main menu, options and whatnot are also pretty messed up, but that aint the problem here).

So the question is: Any idea what I should try to fix it? My PC shouldn't be the problem since ns2 plays well, but what I've been suspecting to be the culprit is windows 8, but that's only a speculation.

So if there's any other guys still playing ns1 I'd love to hear any ideas you might have. :>

You say "ns2 plays well" and "I constantly had serious fps issues making it unplayable". Please clarify.

Check out this thread. It fixes the menu, option and fps issues and reverts it back to what you are used to.

I think it was pretty clear that ns2 plays well, but ns1 has fps issues.

Ahh, didn't know there were one since the page for ns1 threw me here.

@PaLaGi I tried the fix but it only resulted in my half-life engine crashing whenever I tried to open a game using it, so think I'll just stick to the awesomeness of ns2 for now and try fixing it some other time.

Does it work if you just start a LAN server?
Anything running in the background that could be an issue?
