you mean I could go gorge to bile some arcs down because nobody else on my team seems to realize they're a threat without losing my fade? sign me up.
Not sure who your comment is aimed at...if this is in relation to what I have suggested the answer is no...you would lose your fade.
The lifeform you last die as should be cheaper if on your next life you choose to evolve into the same lifeform again.
So if you die as a gorge...your next gorge could be 8 res instead of 10.
This would actually make hypermutation useful, reduce the chances of exploiting (as you dont ever recover p-res).

No one has mentioned the actual intended purpose of hyper mutation. It was to shave off the difference in cost between higher lifeforms. So if you bought lerk for 25 present, it was only another 50 to go onos.
You can see how this played hell on tech timing.
The endless varying exploiting and difficulty explaining what the upgrade was meant for, and it's niche nature was the ultimate reason why it was cut.
I personally loved feign death and felt like if the bugs were fixed and things were tuned (per lifeform like how other upgrades are) it would've worked.
People genuinely got frustrated by something coming back to life, even if it was on the brink of death. I always found that weird and enjoyed the paranoia it introduced. So between dev time required to fix it plus people upset about the mechanic...

@ ironhorse 25 lerk present?...did I miss something about it coming down from 30? Is this something to look forward too or just the fog of old age setting in?
The intended purpose of hypermutation was only useful if you dont die...not something most of us do and as such was only ever useful by a small group of the player base.
Besides being used for exploiting (ie khamm lerk eggs and devolving) I doubt many found a consistent use for hypermutation.
I know I certainly never bothered with it, but I dont exactly have whopping big K:D ratios so if it came down to the rare chance I might be alive long enough to use it or the other two upgrade options (celerity/adren)...hyper never got a look in.
By tweaking it to work for the wider player base you could also remove the t-res to p-res exploit.
Feign death was good for lerk and fades...but pretty crap for anything else as you could rarely get away due to being too slow&low hp.
Tweaking it a bit for each lifeform would help fix it and I do sorely miss it...used to like having that fear whenever a team mate killed something as you never know if they have really killed them.
Really make you a lot more paranoid as a marine.....ignore the haters...invest the time I say.

lol!
Oops.. That's what happens when you end up too enthralled in balance discussions!
No, nothing planned for future, just my brain slipping.
Thanks for the catch @hakenspit
