When lag starts, that collision thing goes all purple.
And 20 fps in first 20 seconds of the game sure ain't feel right. It was ok in late game before, but I had my 50-60 in the begging, that used to be my time...

nono.. Expend the long purple bars as much as possible. Also see the red columns on the bottom? use [ and ] to cycle through them. We want the biggest one lightred instead darkred. Then find the biggest purple bars, and expend those.
I tried my best following your instruction, don't think I did it right to. Was really hard with such low fps and marine killing my gorge in the process of taking screenshots.
This was not the 2-3 second freeze I saw before, but it was a glitch. However it looks like I may found a bug in the profiler. ;-) Also I did delete the cache and it may have helped. I have not seen the long freezes since. But these were still a 100-160ms frame, so there is something up.
I think these may happen toward the beginning of a round. In the past I have seen them in the middle of the round. I'll report it if I see that again.
For reference: Radeon HD 7850 2GB AMD FX-8350 (8-core) 4GB (effective) ram 32bit Windows 7
By the way, if I reinstall, will I lose all my settings, or they can be saved? Menu doesn't seem to have numerical values for fov and sens, will be hard to fine tune those again.

@xen32 if with highlighted you mean the lightred one.. So yes, make sure the biggest column is lightred. Then check purple bars. Find the red volumn with [ and ]. At the moment your profiler shots mean nothing as they are on the wrong column.
@ampere first of, if you have a 32b windows you do not have 4gb effective ram. its not4GB + 2GB of the vidcard. Its 4GB in total. So if your vidcard is 2GB, you have 2GB effective ram. If windows somehow manages to get more, you have less effective ram on your vidcard. Any system with 4GB+ in total benefits from 64bit windows, and in my eyes any gaming rig these days should be 64b for that reason.
your render seems to be fairly high with occlusion which is purely the graphics card. Try minimal infestation and see how that goes.
As for general info. I managed to 'break' my profiler and it now also has weird values. (cant get it back to normal hahaha) But my render ms are fine so that seems unrelated. Im thinking more related to 32b now, but lets see what the various topics say.
I plan to reinstall windows with 64bit soon. I haven't had time. Good point about the graphics card taking up address space. I forgot about that. And I have 16GB of ram in the machine so I really should use it. :-)
I edited my previous post to add a new screen shot. Neither of the images in the background of the profiling data have anything to do with what the frame was that provided the profiling data. I respawned before screenshotting in both cases. Infestation might be the issue (I think I was seeing infestation in the frame in both profiled frames). But I don't see why that would happen for a couple of frames occasionally instead of whenever I am seeing infestation. Most of the time it's fine.
I have still not seen the REALLY long pauses again so I think deleting the cache may have fixed it. Could we get the updated to do that for us? It seems silly for it to be manual. The recompile only took a minute or 2 for me.
Ok, so that most biggest spike is actually profiler turned on/off (I get this one big spike everytime I turn it on or off, even not in that lag time), so I highlighted beginning and part of the end of lag.
Ok, I'll have to apologize, because it looks like it was just a weird coincidence that 246 was released around time it's got really hot in here! It's very hot outside and inside as well, and my laptop CPU heats up to 96C and that's when some overheat protection kicks in and sets my frequency to 800mhz. So those lag spike are exclusively my problem. I don't play much other game, but when I did, I got the same problem, so I decided to investigate.
But still, I experience lower framerates in general in this build.
I'm on the same boat as the OP. Running on Quad Core (2.66 stock speed, OC'd to 3.6) with a 560Ti. The game is running at 1366x768, everything off (except multicore rendering, texture streaming, shadows are on and textures are high). I used to play public games but I turned to gathers for few reasons. First and the most obvious one is the player quality and 6v6 but the most important reason is the NSL maps (same maps with less lights, meaning more fps). This machine can run most of the games on fairly high quality at 1080p but when it comes to 8v8+ public NS2 games, it's not enough. I've observed the ms delay with the r_stats command and it was constantly 0, occasionally 10 so I know my CPU is the limiter factor here. I also observed the CPU usage and it's arround 50-70%.
At this point, I really hope you guys optimize the CPU usage. I'm still enjoying the game on gathers but I'd like to blow some steam off on public servers aswell. I can provide more information if needed. As a side note, I've just rebuild the caches and joined the gather on default settings (just upped the resolution to 1080p) and took some shots with r_stats on. They may be useful so there they are..
I'll do that when I've got some free time and come back.
edit: I did some tests on 1366x768 with these settings and it's fairly playable after the rebuild of caches. I'm sure it's said before but rebuild the caches after a patch. Even the load times improved.
Is there a fps limit command for the spark engine? I remember having this issue with tf2. My display is 60 hz and with this spec, the lowest fps I get is 50-55 in tf2. Most of the time it's running at 60 but when it dips to 50s in combat, it really effects my aiming. So I thought I should eliminate those fluctuations by limiting the game to 50 fps. I'm thinking about doing the same to NS2 and see how it goes.

I've managed to get this 10 fps (6 was lowest I hit) lag spike twice within like 10 minutes:

So bar shouldn't be highlighted, but light red instead? So I should have cycled back with [ or ]?

I play with one weird resolution, can't get more stuff in one picture.
It starts with no apparent reason. Goes away by itself actually no need to minimize. Also, this was after deleting cache.
you playing on minimal graphics?

So I am not surprised
press space to bring up the profile menu (after typing the command).
use [ and ] to highlight the biggest spike. It should be light red.
Find the biggest purple bars and click them open to the fullest.
I do not know.
