In principle, this is a great idea though it could cause some visual clutter for players. I would agree whole heartily with it if upgrades and current research progress was available at the click of a button rather than constantly visible on-screen. Its not something I'd consider high-priority for UWE but is a great idea for the modding community.
I don't know if this is really needed, so you know weapons 2 is coming? How does this affect your decisions before you could have looked at the arms lab anyway?
It needn't be limited to Armor or weapon upgrades. The number of times i've heard questions like "are shotguns coming?", "how long till jetpacks?", "do we have exo's?" etc. is enough to suggest being able to see the upgrades and their progress could be beneficial to players.

I am disappointed that people have agreed with this. In a game as deep as ns2 every bit of information contributes to the the dynamic and psychology of how you play. if i knew weapons 3 was imminent i would (and hopefully my team) time my next push better than if i had no indication of its immanency. yes i agree the commander should inform the team of upgrades, but this doesn't always happen. and if it does i might not register it because i am either in an intense firefight or being an idiot and not listening because my cats walking around knocking shit off my desk again. i think good communication comes from concise and direct orders, and the less you have to say the more space there is to give said concise and direct orders. ultimately i think a botton to check upgrades status WOULD DEFINATLY allow me and my team to more effeciantly plan our moves.
The only problem with that is, for those of us that have their map up almost 100% of the time when not in combat, it blocks vision/could be distracting. Then again, maybe it won't be, I don't know.
i don't know about other people, but i do really find it needed, when is carapace shell is coming? which hive we have? what is the new hive's growth rate, its health?. those are are really needed.
same for marines, prototype lab shares the same icon as RT on the map. i am tired of searching the map if commander placed a proto lab. what about upgrades, i would wait for a new weapon upgrade (say w3) before enganging a base. how many arcs we have?

It's not needed, no, but it wouldn't hurt.

Not with the map, it would be totally impossible. Have you seen the number of things that need to be displayed?
Just use another bind, it takes all the screen and it would be much more clear for you to see it (and there is already one bind for that: Evolve).
