Quick switch, it doesn't work?

Great that you finally decided to add native function to switch to the last weapon. It's just... it doesn't work.

When I first tried it it toggles back and forth one time before switching to the previous weapon for some reason.

Then I tried it in explore mode and it does nothing but spams this unnecessary message in the console:

Another thing:

Please make it switch to pistol by default, not the axe. Having to press 2-1 every time one spawns _will_ get tedious.

ANOTHER thing I just noticed: it stops working if you build something.

Moved to tech support for future reference.
Thank you for this report, investigating now.

Edit: out of curiousity are you holding down the button or quickly tapping it?
I've noticed its sensitive to being held down, which should be fixed anyhow.

Update: I cannot reproduce quick switch failing - other than building (which is reported)
    What are your bindings?

I'm still using QEF for weapons 123 since I gave up on a quick switch forever ago.

Happens for me on mouse5 (side button on G400).

@jekt is that the only key that is not working with quick swap? And obviously other things work on that key, right? Have you tried quick swap on a keyboard key and have it work? Have you tried any other mouse buttons?
Your answers will help greatly, thank you.

    Looking into this right now.

With regards to the initial toggle-back-and-forth, it still switches to the previous weapon, right? So it still works but it just glitches a bit?

It happens for any input, mouse or keyboard.

It does swap to the correct weapon, it just toggles back to the previous one before doing so. There's an extra swap.

@jekt is that visual glitch what you are considering as to be "broken" ??
Because that's all it is, just a visual hud glitch with prediction.. but quick swap still works..

Please confirm : is there any input that you bind where quick swap does not complete successfully?

    It is broken !!

It happens for any input, as I said. It performs the quick swap twice. It is more than a visual glitch in the weapon selection gui. Interestingly enough it doesn't occur every time on a listen server. Only about 1/4 of the time when quick switch is used. If I join an active public server, it happens every single time.

In NS1, I believe lastinv was clientside predicted, which is part of why it was preferable to using the 1/2/3 weapon slot buttons. I can't quite recall. Glad to see this is getting added back in, it'll make a huge difference to my play. :)

@jekt .. ok so i finally think i know what you are trying to describe... i really need you to be more specific and descriptive :-/
There is a visual flicker of the original weapon that occurs when switching, correct?
This has been occurring for a long time when typically switching weapons, and should be only occasional even then.

Confirm: It still does not effect the timing of switching weapons, or prevent the previous weapon from actually being switch to, correct??

All those switches are just from pressing the quick swap once between breaks. I swapped to pistol manually.

Amusing initially in NS1 lastinv was server side, so there was quite a delay to it. That's why people wrote complicated scripts that rebound a bunch of keys when changing weapons to make a client side lastinv. I believe eventually Valve fixed that issue however.

OK we should have this fixed up, flicker and all, in a hotfix coming soon.

Ah, I had it backwards. And yes, I agree Valve eventually fixed it (and I remember using scripts for the same reason). There was even an infinite leap bug that you could do because of the way the predicted weapon swapping worked (which you could do with a script, but not with lastinv, i think)

Works like a charm. Also defaulting to pistol now, good stuff! =)
