Auditory Positioning Sound Errors

Did anything change with regards to audio in the latest beta?

I am experiencing an issue, where, at around the 9-10 minute mark, my audio is "rotated" 180 degrees. So what should be a sound of welding, skulk, gun fire, etc. at my front left (say 10 o'clock) ends up sounding like it's coming from my back right (around 4 o'clock).

It's really disorienting to hear a skulk approaching "behind me", turn around, only to be bitten because the skulk was actually in front of me all along.

Someone is flipping your headphones on you. The fact that you don't notice is also why you're such a lousy marine. :p

In all seriousness though I have no idea, I just couldn't resist.

Wow.. No audio changes afaik. Weird.
    Headset /drivers?

Thanks for confirming IronHorse. Weird issue indeed. I imagine drivers are at fault, but I don't recall really changing anything. My temporary band-aid is to change the audio device within NS2's options menu, apply, and then change it back, then apply. That seems to fix it.

What's it default to before you change it ?

Default is my sound card -- Asus Xonar U3 USB DAC using Dolby Headphone.

I've uninstalled the drivers (including cleaning out the registry, rebooting, etc.), and re-installed them.

I've noticed sometimes, it's starting to happen as soon as 3 mins after the game starts. And sometimes, changing the sound device, like I did previously, no longer fixes the issue.

Also, sometimes, I hear sounds well across the other side of the map. For example, I'll hear grenade launchers at a hive when I'm at main base.

It's weird because it only really started happening with the last build. I am fairly certain nothing else has changed.

Well, there's some changes coming to how NS2 handles sound in upcoming patches, so i guess sit tight until then unless you wish to attempt continuing to diagnose?
Personally i think you've done all you can short of trying different hardware.

Good to know. Thanks for that update, IronHorse! :)

Not probably worth the time investigating at the moment given that. Hopefully these changes come soon. It's taking away a some of the enjoyment when I play -- it's amazing how much sound cues can help in tracking enemies and such!

@IronHorse - Any updates? Seems like there are many other related posts.

It was working fine until the June builds were released. So I'm thinking, something must have changed, even though you were thinking nothing had?
