Requesting some help making a GUI mod

I'm trying to make a simple GUI with a scrollable list, kind of like the server browser but much more simplified. Where I can put in values for each lines, but I have searched everywhere and found nothing useful. I've looked in the docs in the game files, I looked at the GUI....lua files, the menu files, searched all over the internet. It's getting quite frustrating that this game still has so little documentation for a game that has been out as long as it has. Can someone help me?
I am looking to make a list that would popup when you type in a trigger word into the console. I have that working, but I just don't have the GUI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
