Maybe we could use some parts of the reward-system from Dota2. So Players with a certain amount of hours played could give other players points in categories after the game ended(the game should at least have to last 10mins I think), like: Helpfull to rookies, good commander(if the player commanded), good overall advices and good with Marine(and the gear he/she used)/Alien(lifeform he/she used) and so on. That could be used to balance teams(for sure not 100% but I think that this system would be more accurate than just K/Ds or W/Ls ratios). Sure it could be exploited to some degree if you would really try but I dont think that this would be a big problem in this community
ps: The system should at least recommend the commander for the teams(so the good coms really go com)
So let's say a guy really good with marines gets matched up, joins a server he was assigned, teams are even, but he doesn't get to play marines because he's good at marines and that would imbalance the teams. Also, this would screw over people who want to play with their friends as they would likely have decent scores (because of wins as a result of teamwork!) and they would have to be split up which would be a negative reinforcement of that.
That's why I support it mostly being a method to choose a server rather than matching players within the server (servermatching rather than matchmaking I suppose). I frequently find that on any given evening there are enough skilled players to fill several 24 players servers. However, due to having no ability to find and matchup these players, they are typically distributed across 20+ servers. Give players the tools to find others of similar skill and I suspect many of them will do so because it leads to more fun games.
itt: people like maximum squid and ezekel that don't understand statistics
win/loss will, over time, demonstrate who the better players are with no other variables
the reason matchmaking probably won't work in a game like ns2 has to do with the pool of players being too small. A matchmaking system could perfectly rank everyone in skill, but if there are not enough people, the possible teams will likely be highly variable in terms of aggregate skill
Also, to achieve an accurate indication of player skill can take quite some time in large team games (as opposed to 1v1 games).

or those who have stronger friends.
Main reason I don't play anymore.
