I turned on steam, ns2 is updating, so I think it's a patch. Can't join any servers once it's done. I saw a thread where matso said to check whether betas were active. I checked, I am in the beta. Initially the beta drop down was stuck, so I closed the window, re opened it and then the beta selection dropdown worked, I opted out and now it's downloading 250 again... wasting a grand total of about 700MB of data and about 40 minutes of download time (my internet is pretty slow).

This has to be a bug with either steam or NS2 specifically, I don't know which one, but I'd love to see if anyone at UWE knows anything about why this is happening.

It turns out that if you opted in to the public beta that happened around bt/luajit integration.

UWE kindly has been updating your beta version to match the live version since then.

Yesterday, UWE used steam to push a patch to the PT group. Since you were still using the beta branch despite it matching the "live" version steam happily downloaded it as well.
