Whip projectile attack only does armor damage?

I thought they did HP damage as well, did I miss a patch note?

Edit: To clarify, I mean the projectile attack.

    Same.. also in listenserver, no mods.

    If you mean the bile ball they throw, then yes, that only does armor damage. Whip melee should still do HP damage as usual if you get too close to it. If that's not happening, then there's a bug.

    The projectile attack used to do structural damage only. Then it was changed to also do armour damage along with bilebomb.

    Mhh... another question. I have used them lately in a marine turtle. But couldn't clearly see it: Do they use their throw attack additionally to the normal whack, when a building is in melee range? Or do they only use the melee attack in this case?

    weird.. I can remember the bombard doing hp damage. Perhaps that was modded or something.

    Heh, dont we all think they SHOULD do hp damage on bombard? Now they cant slap nades, whips are expensive as is.

    Nah, they can't use their bile attack on structures in melee range - only the melee attack. Whip can only play one attack animation at any time, so it's either throwing the bilebomb, or whipping something. Can't do both at same time.

    It already does alot to armour and basically can't be dodged. Additional hp damage might probably be a little too strong :p. I also think we need less medpack spam in ns2 than as is.

    i think bombard whips should do single target hp damage, and splash damage armor damage on melee, and leave ranged as is.

    I dont mind it doing hp damage. Yes its a lot of armor damage but then again, its whips. Heavily underused atm due to cost, infestation weakness etc

    well I was clearly mistaken on the hp damage part.

    But I do believe it wouldnt be to much if they DID some hp damage.

    currently, if an enemy gets too close they'll swap to regular whip smack attack. which is nice, but defeats the purpose of echoing bombard whips into a base. :) I know, I know, troll tactics, but still..
    But I do believe it wouldnt be to much if they DID some hp damage.

    I would like if they could prefer the whip bomb over the melee attack. Bombard when the whip bomb has recharged. It has a longer cooldown anyway. It would look like: melee -> melee -> bomb -> melee -> melee -> bomb... and so on.

    I must admit I dont see a big problem with echoing whips, youd need infestation in there base, a asleep comm, asleep marines, time to echo in and even without hp damage a few whisp going at it in base are a bigger concern then marines getting hp damage.

    I don’t know how it is now but before you could upgrade them to a projectile attack that would basically throw a bile bomb. If you did not upgrade them and got close enough the whip would actually lash out and do HP and armor damage.

    They get the Bombard upgrade automatically nowadays when they matured. Which is basically good.
    But it can also ruin any ambush you might want to set up with cloaked Whips. They give their position away with the Bombard (which is rather pointless against marines once the armor is gone), rather than staying invisible and luring the marine into melee range.
    So the auto-upgrade can also be a drawback, which is why I'd prefer if we could toggle the mode of the whip between "Melee only", "Bombard only" and "Melee + Bombard".

    Furthermore should the Whip intelligently choose what to use, not just based on the range. If there is a target in range that takes full damage from the bile (structure, Exo, ARC, MAC), it should always use the Bombard even if the target is in melee range, since it's much faster to take a structure down with the Bombard instead of the melee.
    Or it should rather combine it with the actual Bombard (throwing the bomb to make it splash vs smacking the target with it to make it splash should effectively be the same, except that the latter adds melee damage as well).

    They need to change it so that whips can bombard buildings within melee range, but if a marine comes in melee range it still whips it.

    Or at least make it so that if a building is in melee range, but another building is in bombard range, to prioritize the bombard target instead.

    I still feel like they should have spore bombs. It would make pretty good area denial.

    Imagine if there was a choice to upgrade to Bile Bombs or Spore bombs.
