Surround Sound Issues

I currently play NS2 with a 5.1 surround headset. I have noticed that the ingame sound effects seem to quickly shift from side to side when the sound is coming from my own player/alien. For example, when shooting spikes with the lerk, the audio will either snap back and forth from the speakers or simply not play at all. Similar things happen when running as a skulk or marine; the sound either swaps side to side quickly or fails to play.
I've heard from other players that this is caused by the sound coming from the playermodel and not the first person camera, so when the model moves slightly to the side, the camera is not directly on top of the sound source, and thus the sound only comes from one side or quickly switches back and forth as the player moves.
I know that this has been brought to attention before, but nothing seems to have been done to fix the problem. See http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/123136/7-1-surround-sound-issue for a post from a while ago that brings this up, with the exact same problem.
Also, my headset has 6 physical speakers inside it, so it's not a surround sound emulation issue from the headset's software.
I've attached the techsupport zip as well (to confirm surround setup).

Sadly, that's really all there is to say about it at present
I wish they could fix it, but it seems it could be pretty expensive to do so(time, money, complexity of the change)
