Alternatives for weapon upgrades

Currently weapon upgrades give a flat 10%/20%/30% increase in weapon damage.
Although it makes perfect sense from a RTS point of view, it feels a little bit off from a FPS perspective. I am not saying that the damage increase is a bad idea. It's just that there are other possibilities.

Here I suggest other possibilities for weapon upgrades :

LMG : increase clip size and increase rate of fire
Pistol : increase damage and/or increase clip size
axe : increase damage
shotgun : increase number of pellets and/or increase clip size
grenade launcher : reduce reload time, increase number of clips, (increase splash radius, increase damage)
flame thrower : increase clip size and/or longer burn time and/or increase burn damage.
Rail gun : increase damage
Minigun : reduce heating speed and/or speed up cool down

I believe that the upgrades should be weapon specific.
It would allow fine tunning of weapon scaling. For instance UWE could decide to have a powerfull late game LMG but relatively weak shotgun (it's just a wild/silly example).
Anyway, I believe that every weapon should benefit from weapon upgrades.

    Your idea is quiet good but think about the following: The current upgrade sytem is easy to understand for all players. Introducing yours it would become quiet difficult to remind what each weapon upgrade brings what for which weapon. Also it would be more difficult to balance all these upgrades. My suggestion: Lets first wait to see what comes with biodome
