Game crashes when any map is loaded - unable to complete "one time optimization".

Since 253/254: main menu loads with super low graphics for 5-10 seconds then reloads with normal graphics. Popup to perform one time optimization: 2-5 minutes of compiling but game crashes when it finishes precaching. Nuked my installation and tried again. Then again, this time changing the dx9/dx11/opengl setting. Same crash each time, same prompt to perform optimization.

It would be pretty good to try disabling/removing them and see if that fixes things. I suspect it might.
edit: never mind, disabling compositing helped, performance is ok now, but biodome runs worse than other maps.
