Problem :

Game randomly freezes, resulting in stuttering Audio/Blackscreen. In 3/10 cases I can't alt tab to windows to make a log. CPU/GPU doesn't overheat.

Tried so far :

Full format & clean install, running on lowest settings (getting a 60 + fps)
Running on high priority
Disabling Multicore
Changed the motherboard & cpu.
All drivers are up to date.
Tried D9, D11 and OpenGL.

System Specs :

OS : Win 7 64bit
CPU : Intel Core i7-2630 QM
GPU : Nvidia GT 540M
RAM : 8GB
HD : 150 + GB Free space

    Techsupport zip.

I normally run on D9 / GT 540M, just trying different settings at the moment.

Anyone of the tech support team care to respond?

The game isn't quite stable as of today. Here is an explanation. I guess devs know about this and I would wait for build 256 and then report not fixed bugs. Alt-tab glitch is also a well known issue.

In 256 build this problem is still there, devs/techsupport team please advise.

"Direct3D 11 initialized [feature level 11.0] (Intel(R) HD Graphics Family)"

#1 ensure you are running DX9 fullscreen only, as the rest of the renderers are in BETA mode currently. (it is labeled as such)
#2 notice how it says intel hd graphics family? Its not seeing your 540m GPU.. check the nvidia control panel and be sure ns2.exe is using your dedicated card.
#3 are your 540m nvidia drivers even installed? DXDIAG doesn't seem to think so?

    Hi,

As I was pointing out I was testing out different settings. The game does see the GTM 540 as it states it uses it in the console.

I will make a new techsupport of the 'default' settings.

DXDIAG normally only lists the default image output rendering device, I tried speccy and it lists the GT540M.

I have set the GT 540 M to be the default rendering device for NS2 ( before I posted this topic )

Edit. Ugh, just noticed that I was fiddeling around with fullscreen-windowed and didn't change it back yet for the techsupport. It occurs in fullscreen and fullscreen-windowed and windowed.

Could you also post your log? Because in your case the techreport is kinda not helpfull.

Ok and there is nothing else after it crashed?

Nothing notable in any of the information you provided thus far, unfortunately.. my suspicion is the video drivers for your laptop, considering their reputation (often proprietary drivers, too) for compatibility and stability.

If NS2 crashes, do not close any windows, even if its a black screen or error. Navigate to your NS2 install folder and run techsupport.exe with that window open still. This will make a potentially large dump file (inside the zip that techsupport.exe makes, there will be a folder called "minidump") that you can then upload to somewhere online (like Drop box) and provide a link to it in here or to a dev. This dump file is the fastest, most accurate method to catch a crash!

Again.. it will probably be a large file, so just be prepared.. but the good news is that its a quick way to fix it.
Alternatively if you're given a "debug report" crash, submit that debug report, and then PM me your email / steam username that you used.

I've send about a ton of those allready but I'll wait for a crash on the 257 build. I'll try to navigate to the techsupport.

Edit. I am also running with the priority high (batfile) and visual themes and desktop themes shut off.

Devs have your crash reports.. its somewhat unclear but has to do with a model.
There are 12 other reports like yours though, so it seems like there's definitely a problem.
Looking into it. "Brian: ill see if we can catch this crash somehow"
    Thanks!

*update* looks like there is now a fix in place for next patch! :)

On what date is the release of this patch planned?

Was just hoping on getting an estimate hehe, my laptop is almost flying out of the window because of the frustration of crashing all the time. I should just stop playing and wait for the patch.

Wise solution. I'll wait, too, meanwhile playing other Steam titles. I did all I could on my end and I'm a bit tired of crashes and that feel of non-pleasant surprises waiting for you around every corner. Estimate dates would be great at least to know whether it will be "some weeks" or "some days" or "next week".

Has this fix really been inserted in the 258 build? Maybe it has been postponed because of the difficulty of the memory leak issue?

It seemed to have gotten worse as I have gotten the crash several times in the menu now.

I had a similar issue. It seems to be working so far. All I changed was the resolution. I changed it to the native res which mine is 16:9. If you notice, some resolutions have an asterisk next to it *. Try changing it to that.

I did try 258, I was just wondering if the fix had been inserted before I run a full debug again :)

    It should be fixed, yes.
Let us know if you experience this again
    thanks!

Still experiencing it yes; I'll run a full debug again.

Bumping this, I didn't run a full diag but have been trying all different settings; even a rollback in drivers.

I never got the game to work, just didn't feel like trying untill the latest update; which still doesn't work.

Let me know what you want me to do/run; I sometimes end up freezing/crashing in the menu before even starting up a 'game'.
