How do I disable Message of the day?

MangoMango Join Date: 2012-10-11 Member: 162061Members
I don't want to connect to someones website through NS2 since my noscript/noads isn't enabled. I don't trust these Message of the Day links that goes to a website without my addons that block harmful scripts. Please, tell me how to disable "Message of the Day". I know Counter Strike source had an option to disable such pop-in websites when joining a server but I can't find it for NS2.

Those messages come from a mod, that is installed when you join the server. You would have to contact the author of that mod to know more

wow that is just pathetic...why would NS2 even allow such a MOD that can be very abusive. This has to be fixed before it gets abused by anyone hosting a server and decides to add this mod to connect to a website that has harmful scripts. I don't trust it ever since Counter Strike: source had the same problem, lucky they had an option to disable this.

Considering the fact there were mods that made walls transparent, auto aim and such, I don't think UWE care's much about mods.

I'll add it to the to-do list. But in fact ns2 uses a in-the-sandbox browser (chromium), so its pretty unrealistic that something gets out there. Valve used IE .....

Sometimes typing "acceptmotd" in chat gets rid of it. At least it does for one mod.

That's also shine ;) And it's !acceptmotd, all shine chatcommands start with a "!" BTW you can read everything about that here: https://github.com/Person8880/Shine/wiki/Message-of-the-Day

Personally, I find those MOTD messages annoying. Why should I be forced to have a huge pop-up window all over my screen when I join a server? Since there is an option to access the MOTD screen via the mod menu (the same one that is used for voting etc.), there is no need to display it automatically.

Perhaps the best solution would be to ask UWE to implement a simple, plain text MOTD field on the loading screen, similar to the way server mod list is displayed. Or mod it that way, if possible.

If it would be this way most ppl would never read the motd and e.g they would never notice that there is something like a vote-menu, also the webbased motd is not the default option. Server admins have to activate it. And i don't want uwe to even touch this field. Why? It would cost uwe only time they better spent on optimizing the game.

I am glad NS2 isn't using I.E that is a relief. However, it would be nice if it is possible for the MOD to disable scripts when connecting to a website. Not sure if that is a difficult task but it will make it much safer.

    go to your username/appdata/roaming/naturalselection2/workshop

and go inside each mod folder until you find the mod doing it, it's most likely a message of the day mod or shine admin, I don't allow shine or any motd mods on my pc; only allow custom maps and beta test if the server has anything else I won't join

popups are simply obnoxious and I never want to see them, in source I have a cvar which only allows custom maps to be downloaded and all html motd are disabled because people kept putting up porn sites and etc

Yeah i don't like this either so an option to disable the browser would be good.

If it's such a massive inconvenience to have it, I can add an option to "opt-out" of seeing it everywhere that runs Shine.

Please consider that with this option (sh_disableweb) you will be also unable to use the Ns2Stats ingame features.
