Hi,

somehow I can't play this game anylonger. Errormessage is this:
screenshot.png

Things I tried to get arround :
Drop C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2\Workshop
Removed all Abonnements of Workshop items
Delete C:\Users\Veruhl\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2
Complete Reinstall NS 2... more than once.

I don't know what happend but the Game worked fine since the last update and I've got more than 300h fun to play it.
One thing that is stange to me : after reinstalling NS2 I can play exactly 1 Game... than I have to reinstall again...
but it is no sollution for me to download 4 GB of data just to play this...

Oh btw. I can't play on Public Servers and I can't play in Training Mode against Bots... both the same error Message

Here is my current log

Can someone please help me with this ?

Thx.

Hi, first of all you should better have posted this into the Tech support.

But the reason you can't join a server is that somehow some of your gamefiles are corrupted, please validate your game files with steam. Also turn off physx for now in the generell options.

This is what you do, get kicked again on purpose, then open the console, it will tell you exactly what file you were kicked for. Go delete it and verify with steam. Why delete? Because steam is stupid and if the file exists it sometimes won't replace it. If it happens again check console for what file it said and repeat. If it happens AGAIN just delete the whole /ns2 directory and verify.

Just look in the log for things like this:
Error: File 'models/props/generic/lights/generic_light_03.dds' failed consistency check!

    Jey! Good tips... i'll try!

And you're right... I missed the tech-support Foums.

Trying to disable Physix... No effect.
Deleting Files that are inconsitent and try to restore the original Version ... Jupp... that did the trick. Just validating with steam is not enough.

    Thanks for the fast Help!

I have the same problem and I've looked in the console and it shows me this

    Error: Couldn't open file 'D:/build/assets/materialsrc/biodome/biodome_glass_01.material'
Error: No shader specified for material 'D:/build/assets/materialsrc/biodome/biodome_glass_01.material'

But the thing is that first of all i dont have a partition called D and i highly doubt the game would be in the root, and there is no assets in the builds folder.
Also if im not supposed to look for builds then there is no build folder in the game folder

That's unrelated. Some trash the devs left by mistake. Ignore those specific errors. You want to find the other one. Post log if unsure.

Error: File 'maps/ns2_descent.level' failed consistency check!

well there's that but it passed so i don't know if its a problem
    also

Error: Attempted to load remote options from a file that does not exist.

and there was another with the failed consistency but i deleted it, verified with steam and it didn't show again
here's the whole log just in case

Yeah that'll probably fix it. In the future, find the file that failed and delete it specifically, then verify the game with steam. THAT particular file shouldn't fail again (more might). Can also do a batch delete if they keep popping up.

Delete maps/ns2_descent.level , verify NS2 Game Files via Steam, repeat with other files. Also try to change your Steam Download region.

@anduqwer if this keeps happening non stop I have a feeling your HD or RAM is faulty. Are all the files messing up in the same dir? If so just delete the dir and verify.

yes but the same directory is ns2 so yeah and why would a file just suddenly get corrupted?

  • Ghosthree3Ghosthree3 Join Date: 2010-02-13 Member: 70557Members, Reinforced - Supporter
That's a steam problem. COULD be your internet though. Try restarting steam, also see if you can make a local server if you cannot join a dedicated.

The first thing that failed was the map descent. Delete it, then verify through steam.
The second crash is because you are using 32 bit Windows instead of 64 bit (10% of all steam users use 32 bit).. There are work arounds like using another program to force ns2 into thinking you aren't. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/
Or you can just upgrade to 64 bit and benefit from the increased performance too!

Lastly, the authentication error is on steam's end.. I recommend restarting steam and ensuring you are not in "offline mode", and that steam friends is up.
    Best of luck!

You can either post the whole techsupport zip, or just the log. Dont worry mcuh about the minidump, mostly the log and other files would be super cool.

    Log seems pretty standard.

Use DX9 if you're not. Only thing I can think of.

EDIT: Obviously I'm retarded as I scanned the log looking specifically what renderer was being used and missed it saying DX9 already.
