Black screen on startup, tried nuke, failed.

I bought NS in the humble bundle today, have spent the last 3 hours trying to get it to work, using troubleshooting guides and such. Full nuke, changing graphical devices, changing resolution, verifying game cache, and praying have all failed me so far, so I turn to you all for help.

I did make a technicalsupport.zip, but my incompetence has succeeded once again since I Cannot find an attachment button, I will perservere and put at least the log.txt below.

Log.txt:
Date: 12/05/13
Time: 16:20:45:
Build 261
Windows 7 64-bit (build 7601)
Steam initialized

Sound Device: Speakers (Logitech Wireless Headset) stereo
Record Device: Microphone (Logitech Wireless Headset)
Error: Couldn't load 'game_setup.xml'
Error: Attempting to set watchdog callback on NULL Lua state

Your gamefiles are corrupted. So something went wrong at downloading the game. Also you should delete %appdata%/Natural Selection 2/ because your game tries to start with OpenGl which is still a beta and not recommended for windows.

Tried redownloading entirely, still won't run. this is the second time I've done this too.

Also: because I was running openGI for troubleshooting before, i'll repost log.txt, in case theres something different here that'll help >.>

You are still missing the ns2 game files. this is what causes the game not to start.

there should be a file called game_setup.xml in <install dir>/ns2 your game cannot find it.

I would check the drive you are using for issues and try downloading for a different steam region.

in case you need the full nuke guide it is here: http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/131428/

I'm looking at the folder now and I can see the file mentioned...I don't understand why that would be the issue. Going to try verifying and then another full nuke off a different steam region.

I'm finding this excessively frustrating :( I really would like to play this game.

EDIT: Nope, reinstalled AGAIN, from a different stream region (This makes 4 times) I still get the same result, there has to be SOMETHING I can do?

I'm sorry to keep bringing this up, but another reinstall (seperate from the one above) still has yielded absolutely no results.

There has to be something I can do to get this game to run? Reinstalling has gotten me nowhere.

    Hmm that is super odd.

I would guess there is a permission issue on the folder and that ns2 cannot access the file. Try adjusting the permissions on the install folder or copying the whole game else where and manually running ns2.exe

Can you upload a techsupport zip somewhere we can take a look at. IT might have some more clues as to what is happening.

I found a solution, problem fixed when I told the game to run as an administrator in the game folder.

Thank you for trying to help :) the game is alot of fun now that its working.
