For those of you helping noobs... look at the steam forums!

There is a ton of people who are posting questions or looking for advice, and there doesn't seem to be many vets on there answering any questions besides me and a select few. I know there is a good handful of you nerds who check this forum every day, why not slip on over to the steam forums and make sure there isn't any outstanding questions that aren't being answered huh? Proper grammar goes a long way too, we don't want to come off as the cod generation to newer players :)

Here's a good thread for it too, as questions arise.

Redirect any tech support issues to our actual tech support forums, here, however... as its got years worth of issues already documented for searching.
Be sure to point them to this

If someone wants to truly help nåbs, I would spend some substantial time going through the wiki and making sure it's up to date. IMO that's the first place most semi-serious people will go for an answer to a question, especially related to numbers. I think I spent upwards of 1-2 hours going through the wiki when I first started playing, and I feel like it was by far the most helpful resource for learning 101 things (ha yu lan dis tang), tech trees with cost/timing relationships, and weaknesses/strengths, other than playing the game itself.

How out of date is the wiki now...?

Well .... the wiki is not the problem, it's the people who can't start the game 99% of the time caused by missing files. Something that is common with individual lua files.

Steam Forums are toxic. They always have been.
There is a general hostile attitude around there because the entry requirements are so low (people got a Steam account anyway, whereas here you usually care enough about the game to make an account). I understand why the good guys avoid them.

Only this isn't the Steam Users forums, this is the Steam Community forums... and somehow the level over there seem to manage to be even lower.

SPUF (steam user forums) somehow have intelligent people, and steam discussions somehow have idiots

And I honestly think it's the whole no registration/confirm e-mail required, I think that weeds out most of them

Heck add in a grammar trivia question and we'll have the smartest forum yet!

    They're there their!

There's also a ton of negative posts that newcomers see at first, that were up there on ns2 'frontpage' on steam. Before all these sales came out, i tried to make more positive posts there but quite simply, the UI is just so godawful that i rarely use it for anything else but random workshop searches. :(

Erm no need to call ppl noobs or nerds. Also, we will go help others on steam forums if we feel like it.

And, this is the official forums.

Coolitic a noob is a new player. You might take it as derogatory, that's your own problems - don't be upset with me. Thanks for the other info, that I pretty clearly knew since I'm posting on the official forums, anything else obvious you feel the need to point out?

    @draktok, no @coolitic is right.
a NEWBIE is a new friendly willing to learn new player.
a NOOB is a unfriendly unwilling to learn new player.

Newb is someone who is new to a game

Noob is someone who isn't new but is still bad at the game

I would answer questions in the steam forum.... if there actually was a NS2 sub-forum. Unfortunately Steam all but refuses to add one.

The Steam "discussions" area is not a proper forum. It is an unsecure toxic wasteland of facebook/twitter like posters that is linked directly to your game account. With hundreds of games on my account there's no chance I'll ever take the risk of posting there.

I'm sure that I am not alone in my refusal to post in discussions, which is likely why there aren't too many people offering help. If you really want the new players to get help, I'd suggest making a post to direct them to this forum.

I am on pubs alot atm, and its always hard to describe new players without sounding condescending, so I just use the term 'green'. I would say in All chat at the start, how many greens. This for me sets the tone of the match. It sort of helps to set your expectations about the game. More green stack my team = probably no win, so I relax and try to coach them in the game instead. I do check the Steam forums, and think it needs another sticky (aside from the Tech help), a where to learn to play sticky would be nice.
