Hi!
I'm experiencing same issue. Win 7 64bit.
Error: Failed to allocate 536870916 bytes and will now terminate.
Adding attachment with logs.
I'm gonna try reducing graphics quality.
Hi all. Started to get this same problem since the update today. Never had this problem before.
Tech Support folder link dropbox. I presume you will have my computer specs in that. If not, ask away.
The second tech support folder is when i had everything on low. but this should not be a problem as it was fine before.
About to do the RAM test. will post once the computer restarts. Test completed and no errors found
Was a solution found for the above problem?
EDIT: a bit more looking around on the website and I may have found a solution. this forum was the first link i came across. Still advice to sort this will be great as this is the first link from google, so it will be good for a clear answer here
UPDATE 2:
I noticed that I don't crash when playing seige maps. only ns2 maps not the case...
UPDATE 3: I am able to play some rounds without the crash, but then it will (what appears to me) randomly crash

Looking at your DXDIAG and your log.txt it looks like you are running on integrated graphics? An Intel HD 4600
That is not officially supported, just FYI.. minimum requirements are a 1 GB dedicated graphics card.
I am not sure whether you are receiving these fragmented memory crashes due to not meeting the minimum requirements - but it is worth considering since integrated graphics do not have dedicated VRAM, but rather share memory with your OS by utilizing your installed RAM.
I see you have 8 GB of ram and you said you have tested it - I am assuming you tested with MEMTEST86 for many hours? As this is the only way to properly test your RAM that I know of.
While this may be a known issue, it has largely been resolved, and the majority of those who encounter it frequently (I've encountered it twice in a year of playing) are those who are not meeting the memory requirements such as having very little RAM or not using a 64 bit OS.
That all being said : You are using Windows 10 which has been receiving a lot of attention lately for it's huge RAM usage. (See Batman Arkham Knight minimum requirements of 12 GB of RAM when using windows 10!!)
Again, I do not know if this is influencing your symptoms but it may be worth looking into.
There are some tips out there that may help with this, but use at your own risk
@GhoulofGSG9 I've started NS2 with Verbose3 and connected to regular ns2 server with less than 24 slots as requested. Crashed regardless, shortly afterwards. Attached is the tech support.
@IronHorse I get that its not officially supported, but I've been playing my current setup for months without problems and there hasn't been any recent changes installation to the computer. Only change has been NS2 build to 277.
It may not show it in the dxdiag report, but i have assigned 512mb to the VRAM for the integrated graphics and this change has been reflected in the resource monitor screen as it showed an increase of 512mb RAM usage to the hardware reserved - via BIOS. This was added when I first put together the computer - months ago. as I said, there has been no recent changes to the computer apart from the NS2 build.
Also when I have been able to play NS2, I've never came close to using the full 8GB RAM, I don't think I have ever exceeded 6GB of ram usage on the computer in general.
Also want to point out that @Ehlek70 appears to have recently posted about a similar problem but I don't know his situation.
I don't know why, but I think I remember there being a similar problem last year (or year before) when the Halloween patch was released, but I may be wrong. Regardless, the latest build is the obvious link to my problem
@Legend_Boss Did you try to set the Texture Handling option to 0.5 GB yet?
Just checked the seetings and I had Texture Handling set to Off. I think it was on either low or middle before the crashes. When I first experienced the crash, I turned all the settings to off or low

Can you tell me since when exactly you expire this issue because that would help me trace down the given code-change.

Build 276 - no problem. played regularly during that build, even though it wasn't out for very long.
Build 277- day of released. Downloaded (was early and the servers i usually played were empty). Played a bit of siege not many people on went to another server, not much happening. No crash
Returned that afternoon to play a bit. Was fine playing siege. Went to another server then shortly afterwards it would crash, kept trying and the crashes continued. Went back to siege, seemed fine for a while, but then it would crash, not as frequent as normal ns2.
It does still crash on siege but not as often. One thing worth pointing out is that if i join a server and go to spectate I don't crash. If after a while of watching gameplay (in the various modes) i join a team I would crash.
I will look into getting a cheap 2nd hand GPU within the next few days as that may help. Would rather if I could resolve the issue before then, as a GPU doesn't guarantee a fix.

@Legend_Boss Thanks we are looking into this issue - there definitely seems to be a few users out there that are recently experiencing this.
One thing though : You seem to have a large amount of mods in your workshop folder. (probably not ones you've installed)

Just to be safe, can you please Deactivate them in the in game Mod menu, then press restart > then quit NS2.
Then unsubscribe from ALL NS2 mods through Steam's Workshop
Then manually delete your hidden folder %appdata%/roaming/Natural selection 2/Workshop/ (just del the workshop folder)
Then ensure your options.xml file has a blank space in between the <active_mods> portion so it looks like this:
<mods>
<active_mods> </active_mods>
</mods>
Then save the file and close it.
You can find your options.xml file here <steam>/userdata/YOURSTEAMID/4920/remote/options.xml and you can open it with notepad or any text editor.
After you've cleaned out all the mods please see if you have any further issues and report back.
Thanks!
@IronHorse Done as you requested and can confirm that the options.xml has a blank space between the mods section.
I was able to play a few rounds, including on servers with over 24 players. Only played for about 10min to so i could report back. The game didn't crash, but on a few occasion the game froze for a couple of secs then resumed. It appeared as if it was going to crash but didn't. My ping was below 50 when this happen and it happen on different servers.
When I get more time to play for longer, I will report back to say whether I have continue problems or not.
SIDE TOPIC:
I have spawn override on my map but when the map was played on a server it didn't stick to the spawn override. There was no random spawns on that server or anything that would have overridden the spawn starts.
Also during the short time i tested to see if i can play NS2, I went on Spark Craft server, and the map that got tested had the same problem. the mapper set spawns override but the server didn't keep to it. Is this a known issue? - didn't want to create a thread if this was known already

@Legend_Boss Thanks, yea play for longer and let us know. I'd be surprised if it helped your issue but it's worth eliminating other factors regardless.
As for the spawn over ride that is definitely not a known issue.
We'd need to know specifically what server side mods are used and how to best reproduce it.
Thanks
@IronHorse I still crash as before. Managed to play a bit longer before a crash, but nevertheless it still crashed. It also had moments when the screen froze as if it was about to crash. There was nothing in the console when that happen, just usual gameplay info.
Siege is less likely to crash but it does have its freeze moments
I am able to start ns2 without any crashes and can load my map and play on it without any problems, been testing my map and having it open in the background without any problem.
Regarding the spawn override. My map is available on Wooza playground. The mods running there are: Shine Administration, NS2+ and Wooza's Potpourri
The mods on Spark Craft Collective are: NS2+, Shine Administration

Hmmm.. When the pumpkins / Halloween stuff get turned off, I wonder if you'll still have the same issue.
We don't have any solid answers for you yet, but know that this stuff is on our radar and that you're not the only one reporting this.
We just don't have any solid leads to go on just yet.
Thanks for the data!
edit: did you ever try that link i provided regarding win10 and it's memory leak issues?
So I played some NS2 in the morning on a server half around the planet. means high latency 400+ms
Almost immediately got the attempting to sync invalid collision rep error with a bit of stuttering -once-.
I noticed redplugs every time I spawned from an egg after dying. They varied from no redplug to seconds long. But almost every spawn had it.
choke was the only thing of notice in net_stats at those times. somtimes it'd hit the default bwlimit (20 slot server) but that was not a direct cause.
played for a couple minutes and ns2 suddenly stopped responding, with repeating sounds. alt-tab didn't work, used crtl alt del to start techsupport.exe so I could record a lovely memdump while ns2.exe was using 100% of a cpu core and constantly adding mem use(maybe 4mb per sec). Techsupport said successful even on saving the dump. Fuck that it didn't save jack shit.
Just for the record, while it tried to record a dump, the repeating sound stopped and continued after it had apparently finishing recording the dump.
I shoulda used the manual method.
Anyhow, less than a minute after becoming unresponsive I finally got the OPs error.
Then recorded a memdump like a slow ass motherf**er.
Hope it helps.
I should play more so someone who can record proper data faces the issues..
Also I've heard plenty of annoyed voices about the issues. Everyone knows you're trying your best and this is by no means intended, but it does make people stop playing ns2.
Maybe a little more attention to figuring those out of ease of collecting data would help.
For instance, the techsupport.exe should work properly. Maybe connect that with the window that shows upon crash @SamusDroid added a similar trello. finding techsupport.exe deep inside steams folders isn't everyones kind of thing.

@Legend_Boss Can you please recreate this failed to allocate memory crash and when it happens keep NS2 open even if it's non responsive.. and run your techsupport.exe?
It should make the same zip file but this time include a dump folder and will more than likely be very large in size. Upload it online and share a link here.
This should provide us with a dump to analyze and compare with others'
@IronHorse Done as you said. I couldn't see the dump in the techsupport, So i found the dump file and attached it separatly. had to put it in a zip as i couldn't upload it otherwise.
Any idea what the following means? It's from my map and i think it may be causing issues for the server when it loads this map

I definitly attached the files to the previous post but it's not showing. attached is another copy of the previous techsupport and a new one
Edit: Dropbox The link to the dropbox has previous dump files. I am currently uploading a dump file generated from 32 bit task manager from when the game last crashed. Original dump size 3.5GB+
I put it in a zip folder and it got compressed to around 750mb. Currntly uploading to dropbox and it should show amongst the list in about 4 hours zip file called "NS2 dmp"
yeah i'm getting that too. Happened on oozles 18player server, timeout was atrocious leaves your steam client gibbed into non-existence on the server, gotta wait till the timeout happens or someone kicks you.
Thought i was hallucinating, i'll upload mine once techsupport comes up.
I've also found another issue while i have been playing ns2, awesomium process has been running, sometimes multiple threads of it too, that was unusual, could this be related?
windows 7 here.

The lua issue i asked about before. I think i figured out the issue. One of the spawn override had a start location of what the room was called. It did not save when i updated it. It does not show anymore when i test locally. Went through the logs and they still show. Not sure if this caused the spawn override not to work correctly but will report back.
Has my dump proved usefull? Any idea what may be causing the issue
Comments
I'm experiencing same issue. Win 7 64bit.
Error: Failed to allocate 536870916 bytes and will now terminate.
Adding attachment with logs.
I'm gonna try reducing graphics quality.
Also does this happen on any servers which have less than 25 slots and does not run siege?
There are technical reasons ns2 does try to avoid reaching entity amounts beyond 1k normally.
I've not done the MEMTEST86 but instead the what you previously advised to someone else to test the RAM by following the following instructions found howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57569731-285/test-your-ram-with-windows-memory-diagnostic-tool/

Then save the file and close it.
You can find your options.xml file here <steam>/userdata/YOURSTEAMID/4920/remote/options.xml and you can open it with notepad or any text editor.
After you've cleaned out all the mods please see if you have any further issues and report back.
Thanks!
As for the spawn over ride that is definitely not a known issue.
We'd need to know specifically what server side mods are used and how to best reproduce it.
Thanks
Siege is less likely to crash but it does have its freeze moments
I am able to start ns2 without any crashes and can load my map and play on it without any problems, been testing my map and having it open in the background without any problem.
Regarding the spawn override. My map is available on Wooza playground. The mods running there are: Shine Administration, NS2+ and Wooza's Potpourri
The mods on Spark Craft Collective are: NS2+, Shine Administration
We don't have any solid answers for you yet, but know that this stuff is on our radar and that you're not the only one reporting this.
We just don't have any solid leads to go on just yet.
Thanks for the data!
edit: did you ever try that link i provided regarding win10 and it's memory leak issues?
It should make the same zip file but this time include a dump folder and will more than likely be very large in size. Upload it online and share a link here.

Edit:
Dropbox The link to the dropbox has previous dump files.
We'll see if it contains anything useful.
To answer your LUA error question, I shall page @GhoulofGSG9
Thought i was hallucinating, i'll upload mine once techsupport comes up.
I've also found another issue while i have been playing ns2, awesomium process has been running, sometimes multiple threads of it too, that was unusual, could this be related?
windows 7 here.
edit:Just happened again seconds into the game-start i was about to egg and go gorge nothing unsual other then me having my chat open (all chat)

(DROPBOX)^i've left everything here for you, enjoy.
Skip to ~2:16 and ~3:24 are the first occurences, there are more after that.
