i have to agree irc would be better then useing sabot if it ever arrives the reasons:

    - ns2 isnt rly a low ram application
    - waiting ingame is bullshit ns2 isnt stable enough to minimize (it crashes too much)

why irc died out no idea maybe because if you use google and search for irc programs you barley find any good scripts these days (in my opinion)

now to the reasons why steamgroupchat is to prefer over irc:

    - it has an ingameoverlay you see the window flashing even while you play and people can directly contact you like in irc (also its hard to fake identitiys cause of steamids)
    - nearly every game needs steam running these days anyway and if steam is down ns2 dosnt work anyway that also leads to if anyone games something he has steam running anyway..
    - a steamgroup can even offer an event system to notify about "searching pcw" ect that you see ingame
    - theres no addinonal ram use since steam is running anyway
    - it might be possible to write an autostarter shortcut replacer that you join the groupchat automatical each time steam starts
    - its allready installed so not even 20 seconds to figure out ;)

i uses irc a alot back in the days and its still running it all the time but sadly its nothing for the new generation :(

but i would also be up to give it a try to populate it again its still better then steam private chatting everyone.. what is extremly inefficent and time consuming

You can't fake a name in IRC if it's been registered.

Should we get someone to go frontpage with this? irc channels and guides for n00bies on what it is and how it works? i know even if i used irc alot back in the days i myself need time to figure out how things worked every half a year i happen to open it up :D

edit: what about this steamgroup thing people mentioned? i remember atleast there being some limitations on how many guys you can have in one group or something.. maybe you loose the members icons or something after a certain limit? can't remember, not a big fan of steam way of things anyways :D

This community is small enough where we really don't need irc or steamgroups. There are usually only a handful of teams around a teams skill level so you don't have many choices to begin with. if the community was much bigger, then it would make more sense.

Now if we had a running ladder for all teams, you could get a very quick idea of which teams are around your skill level... /me hides (see what I did there?)

    i understand your argument joshh

but on the other hand it harms new teams in finding enemys fast if they have to add 20 people first

if you would have all captains at one place a new teamleader just needs to join there and askes for an pcw like they where used to do it in the irc days

also you guys jump from team to team so fast it would make sense to have 1 chatchannel with everyone in for that reason aswell

just found out how you can make a shortcut to get into steamgroupchat when you start steam:

BTW steamgroups are unlimited big i think
the ns2 steamgroup is huge the only downside is kinda when you have more then 100 users in there you cant browse trough the steam grouplist tab trough the members

    Steam group up:

    Natural Selection Match Organizer (NSMO)

    Please tell your friends :)

I will do my best to let other teams know about this.

I've made it so that clans who want to start a PWC, can start an event and follow a template of information that i made.

    Any suggestions, just shoot

While it's nice that you made the effort to get a group working for organisation, I can guarantee that you that it might get a little use for about a week, before everyone ignores it.

sorry couldnt find the group. can you give me the link please

also to get this thing going its like filling an pub server you need the critical mass to make it full so we first have to get 4-5 teamleaders from diffrent teams into there inb4 it will go anywhere.

so lets make a .BAT file or an other posiblity that automatical modifiys the steam autostart/shortcut to the steamgroupchat if you start steam or at least provide a tutorial how to add it yourself.

(i guess i can do that hold on)

so dont give up too fast we first need the critical mass

also the possibility for everyone to make events need proper controling

cause if some people keep spamming others get annoyed pretty fast that play barley and gonna leave the steamgroup cause of the event spamm :( so doing it only with chat might be better
