My first strategic post..
Well I am sure every one knows of the games you play where you have many resorce points secured and have issued powerfull wepons, then suddenly encounter a pack of fades and one onos (group of Heavy armor + wepon guys) , then have you base torn apart, hiding and fighting with your knife (teeth <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->) until you've lost.
My post is addressing - to newer players - the crucial actions you must make to stop you enemy accumulating enough time to strike your income points and suffocating you.
As marine it is aparent you need to deffend against rushes, this can very simply be done by camping in your base in one group - future NB: always organise marines in groups for higher survival chances. When the premlim rushes have passed your time until the next rush is - against a more strategicly aware opponent - reasonable, this can be extented greatly or stopped by your actions in the furture. Basically actions I would suggest are:
- Build turret factory, obvious respawn point(or2), and an ammo dispencer.
- Send one group out to claim territory (which has resorces), and keep the remaining people on deffence and build duty.
- Turret the claimed land and fortify it to a resonable standard (1 turret: covering structures from behind, 2 turrets: infront of the other structures initially)
(This part could influence your game's outcome, be precise in executing, be time wise)
- Create 1-2 new groups for claiming territory, 1 if groups are large, have these groups carry 1 shotgun if possible and also a welder or two.
- Locate you groups to areas you with to dominate, hives are suggested, but they are not crucial points, points to be secured are points next to hive so to choke off enemy's supllies.
-Factory the areas and upgrade factories if you have time, buld seige turrets and try to make sure fades aren't attacking otherwise you could be torn apart in seconds.
- By this time your income should be a lot. Issue you groups and you base deffence, who should be patrolling the outter areas of the base, ie closest resorce points to previously claimed points - this will ensure you are choking the enemy and that they're not getting any close mineral point and mounting an attack force.
- Finally with you team fullly equipped you should move in on hive points if they are empty, secure them QUICKLY! If they are occupied, attack with great force, top up you team mate's health and eventually you enemy should topple.
