Audio positioning issue, as well as lack of surround sound

Alright so, I've been having an issue with the sound in this game. I have the Razer Megalodon 7.1 surround sound headset, which through USB audio converts audio into Virtual 7.1 surround sound. This has the ability to switch between 2.0 (stereo) and 7.1 Surround sound. Since I've started playing, I've noticed every time i strafe left or right, the audio moves to the opposite side of the headset, which is extremely disorienting and it confuses me to where movement is coming from. I've done some Google searching and have determined there has been people who have had this problem since 2008. That's a pretty long time. I've also been trying to look for a solution to force the game to play in at least 5.1 surround sound, to no avail. This is the only game that has this problem so far. Do you guys think you can help me on this? I've tried using both the 7.1 surround and 2.0 stereo modes in the hopes that it would just fix itself, but that doesn't appear to be working. Thank you ahead of time.

That's quite the disappointment. Would at least like know if a developer sees this and attempts at letting us know it is going to get worked on. This is a pretty unfortunate issue.

I have Corsair Vengeance 1500 with 7.1 Virtual surround and haven't noticed any issues. How much have you messed with the settings of your headset software?
