Authentication failed, after new patch

this has been solved now, thanks to GhoulofGSG9, wouldn't have worked it out otherwise, it's always the simple things...

ok, so i'm at a loss at what to do here.

i've been playing NS2 for a year now, and i've never had this issue.

just today when i started ns2 up to play it (as you do) and clicked do optimization now, and it freezes up for a min then jumps back to the menu screen with the measage "Authentication failed, if other steam games do not work, then steam may be down, or your firewall is blocking it"

so, i ignore it thinking it's a one off thing, and skip the optimise, decideing to just try join a server, but not ONE server is showing up on the list. i've no idea what to do, i've searched the error for a while, and the few times it's shown up, the person who had the error restarts steam and it's fine (i tried that, no result).

i got rid of any mods, and when that didn't work i reinstalled the game entirely with no result.

i've checked out my router, just yesterday had no problems, no setting have been changed, and i restarted it a few times, there doesent seem to be any problems with it.

i have no idea what it could be, so any help would be apreciated, i just want to jump back in and play some ns2! :D

hopefully, it's something that will just go away, but it's been happening for around 12 hours now.

    Restart steam and ns2, should fix it.

    Make sure steam and ns2 are really closed and not running in background.

    Allright, i restarted my computer, no change, still the same problems, "Authentication failed" when i try to optimize, and no servers in the list. :/

    Under leave a commant there is "Attach a file". Use it to post the zip here. We will then analyze it and see if we find this way the issue. Also did you allready try to change the steam download region?

    ok, i had not tried changeing download regions, i jsut tried that, it worked right away, thanks for your help, but why did that affect it so badly??

    It's winter sale time, so some steam server are under pretty heavy load atm. Seems like you got one of those.
