ok looks like your right and it was a fluke, but it still has advantages the other way. now if they lower the elevator they get turrets and if they send it up you can weld the turrets. Its still Win win to put em on the elevator.
Yeah it's kind of fun, one game we put about 25 turrets on the damn elevator and when a fade tried to **obscenity** us off by sending some acid rockets into our base from the ladder space we sent the elevator down to mob em up, worked quite well <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Level 3 Turrets smash the hell out of most critters
Nice idea, but is it really that practical? I imagine a fade taking those out pretty easily, by firing and then dodging behind all those boxes on the ground floor. Never seen it in action though.

Usually, when I see someone building turrets on the elevator it's the aliens...One gorge slapping about 8 offensive chambers and 3 defense chambers on the elevator and sending it up can lead to marine base devastation and extreme annoyance if they don't have a siege in their base. This also provides a nice distraction for the rest of your team to attack somewhere else.
But I'd think that the advantage to the marines cramming the elevator with turrets is that the turret factory could probably be put safely within the base, so the aliens would have to destroy each and every turret by themselves. I'm not sure if the turrets would still be in range of the turret factory if the elevator was lowered or not, but it's something to try.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LoL....i never thought of this. might try it today. i just have two things to say:
1) Will the turrets be in range of a TF in the base or do you have to build a separate one on the elevator because its going down to another elavation?
2) I have to say that elevators do tend to lure aliens yet deter them. If i was anything lower then a fade in that hallway leading to Atmospheric Processing, i would hide behind either side and peek to see what is coming down. Anything such as a Fade and Onos is expecting to ambush and get a free kill off a noob marine who wondered down with the elevator. If i was a lerk with spore, i would spore a few times (if we have the hives) to weaken anybody. you never know when the whole Marine team wants to come down and spray the aliens. also, aliens hiding inside the vents (about the middle of elevator route) can peak also. so the only time this turret thing will work massively is to blast a rush.

I've seen this done... I was lerking in the hallway below, with 2 fades and 2 onos, getting ready to go up. We're all set to go, the healer gorge has pulled out of the area, and... we hear the elevator coming down.
And 20-odd turrets come into view.
That was a very clear hallway about 10 seconds later, myself the only survivor due to a conveniently located crate. A bunch of marines promptly came down the ladders and moved on into atmospheric processing.
Putting a siege or two on the elevator is fun, too... it's ranging changes slightly, allowing you (sometimes) to hit buildings you couldn't from your spawn point.
Even worse on the elevator, a pack of stacked OCs with a nice group of DCs behind them. I've seen this happen many a time because the marines were unsuspecting of this and didn't get a siege. Its quite funny actually to hear the *whirrr*, think its a marine on the elevator, then die from a mass of stacked OCs. But never have I see it done with turrets.

Oh, there's at least one use for them.
