Screen Freezing/Lagging Randomly

So I have been playing Natural Selection 2 for a while now and this is the first problem I've had, so I don't know where to post this. Anyway the problem is really annoying and I have no idea what's causing it, most games I play I have a ping of 15 to 40 so very low and a fps of 50-60, it doesn't happen with any other game. but all games I have played recently in ns2 I have been lagging so I am shooting behind them when to me it looks on target and quite regularly seemingly random screen freezes, in which it stops for only 2 secs but then it jumps back to a previous spot I was in, it's like I have a massive connection problems, but I don't.

If anyone has any advice or what could be causing this it would really help.

Thanks
Ben

    net_stats 1
check for the server rate. Which should be a near constant 29/30+
Any server often on a lower value is dying and most likely your problem.

    Big servers often die. (20+)

It's not just big servers that die, there are many NS2 servers out there that are just not up to the job. Net_stats is the best way to check the server rate. You'll see when the servers have problems. Late game you may see a small dip, even on a good server, but that is natural due to the entity requirements of NS2. Anything sipping below 25 in a late game is a sign that the server may not be up to the number of players slots.

ok so it's not just me everyone on the server experience it, so I just have to adapt to it. Yeah generally I play on high player servers 30+, and find good rated servers. Where do I find the rating of the servers?

    Cheers for the help

you type net_stats 1 in console and keep a eye on it when you lag.
Yes even smaller servers have this problem.

I dont completely agree with @Soul_Rider though. Even dips to 28 are very noticeable as long as those dips are constant. 25 is starting to become unplayable unless you like rubberbanding.

I was saying that 25 doesn't mean the server is too light for player slots, it could just be a particularly heavy entity round. I agree you can begin to notice it before that level, but you shouldn't necessarily write off a server unless it dips below 25 at end game.
