Flashing Circle issue?

Hello all,

I play on Mineshaft with all settings to max and I get this issue.. these faint flashing circles when I pass by the waterfall at "Water Pump" section of the map.

Is this just me? Or is it a problem with my card?

I have an i5-3570k @4.2ghz and a GTX 670.

Thanks for any help!

This doesn't actually look like a hardware problem so i would hold off on the RMA. No artifacting at all. Looks like some shader issue with the game? I'm sure the playtesters and more engine technical people will know what's going on.

Also, did you try this with dx9 instead of dx11? The graphical fidelity is not really different between the two renderers.

I remember chivalry having a similar problem with bloom... Want to try togging various settings (not only bloom, maybe AO too or something) to see if anything changes?

I'll be honest, first thing I thought was: "is the marine hud not waterproof?"

There have been a few issues this build. The EXO hud gets affected by the rain on Eclipse marine start. Also, if you watch the AusNS2.org match between G & GoN, you see the commentator have issues with bloom over the Sub-Sector hive before the start of round 3.

Very definitely an issue that needs to be looked at.

Ok so i found out that if I turn off atmospherics, the issue goes away.

But the other thing that bothers me is that it seems I'm the only one having this issue. If it was everybody with the same settings that had this issue in this particular part of mineshaft, I know it is a game bug.

If im the only one to experience it however, then I assume the fault lies with me and my hardware?

    Thanks for any replies!

OK! So I tested Natural Selection 2 on my Surface Pro, to see if I could replicate the issue. (Obviously very laggy, but I was just playing for sake of test)

Even with 4 fps, I ran through the hallway with all settings on max w/ dx11 and I very faintly noticed the same issue when looking at an angle away from the waterfall. The flickering circles could be noticed much more on my Gaming PC, and barely with my Surface, but even then, the issue was prevalent on both systems.

I have to conclude then it is a software bug. It's just strange how none of you guys have the issue, yet I noticed it on both PC's.

If you guys do play through the map mineshaft and walk by the waterfall on Water Pumps with everything turned on, and DO notice the issue, please report back. It would settle my nerves even more.

    Thank you guys regardless!

Try turning off atmospherics or try dx9. You don't want to use atmospherics anyways, sometimes it just messes with your gameplay.

Turning off atmospherics fixes the issue, but I mean I like to have all settings "work" properly with the game.

is it only for that one room in mineshaft?
If so.. not worth really spending time fixing imo.

The way that effect was done in that room is sort of tricky/hacky iirc.. you may notice the room actually darkens due to a shader and not due to light..

@IronHorse - As I noted earlier, there seem to be some funny bloom effects in this build, the Gladiators vs Gorges Of Nazereth match in the AusNS2 league game has an issue with bloom while in overhead spectate mode above sub-sector hive. They cleared it by going freelook spectate and then back. I think there maybe some obscure bloom issues..

But he said atmospherics? .... *feels lost*

Sorry, I keep saying bloom when I mean atmospherics.... Why the hell have I got that so confused :P

Well like I said, atmospherics may give a nice view for some people, but it has high performance cost and can hinder gameplay a bit (last time I checked). If you still want it on, I think this may be something the devs need to fix. Try updating your drivers.

    Drivers are updated.

I tested with my friend too. That's three PCs having the same issue in that particular room in mineshaft. I was just concerned it was my hardware, but looks like it isn't.

You sure it's not just a screen effect?

I'm sure, flashing circles all over my screen in different colors is not a screen effect
