Mouse Lag when attacking players

KalopsiaKalopsia Join Date: 2003-05-15 Member: 16331Members, Reinforced - Shadow
When I'm engaging an enemy (generally as aliens), my mouse lags out and the response time increases. It is only minor, but is still enough to miss easy kills. This issue occurs on all maps and it only started happening about 2 builds ago.

I've tried nuking NS2 all together, however it made no difference.
I've installed the latest mouse drivers, no fix.
I've installed the latest graphics drivers, no fix.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

    Assuming you haven't, try lowering your graphics settings, it might be the PC. Failing that, it might be bad servers, any extra info you can give us on which ones you play?

    Quick question for someone, what settings should be set higher to boost performance? I remember something like particle effects and/or ambient occ.

    @dragonmith I did try running on minimal settings a while back, but don't recall it making any difference. Might try again this weekend to see if it makes any difference now.

    In regards to your question, Ambient Occulsions is the option you want off. I have a pretty decent machine and it struggled while this was turned on.

    Well, what is your FPS like at these moments?
    Are you running DX9?
    Mouse / drivers?
    What is your polling rate?
    Have you ensured all overlays and apps are closed in the background?
    Have you tried using the profiler, if only briefly, to ensure no background apps are stealing processing from input handling? (like a windows event)

    @kalopsia, Yes I know about turning stuff off, its the funny ones that somehow seem to offer higher fps when ON that I asked :P Again however, if its not your machine than it might be the servers, some are kinda... meh.

    @dragonmith chances are the things that offer higher fps when on will likely drop said fps more often, when off, it may be 'lower' but it will dip less often. vive le consistency.

    @nezz Tried r_sync 0, didn't help

    @IronHorse

    Generally around 90 FPS
    Running DX9
    Mouse is a Logitech logitech g9x running the latest drivers as of last week
    Polling rate is 500
    I will close all programs next time I play and see how it goes
    What profiler is that? The video card profiler?

    No the NS2 profile. Are you familiar with it?

    * type "profile" in your console.
    * after a bad lag moment, or when you notice that delay, press "spacebar".
    * use the arrow keys to select the biggest spike(s) in the bottom of your screen. It may not necessarily be the largest, but typically is, so feel free to try multiple of the vertical columns.
    * use your mouse to scroll up and down to find the longest horizontal purple bar(s)
    * expand these to the fullest by clicking on the "+" icon.
    * make screenshots of everything.
    * post screenshots here.

    Anyway to rebind the profiler space key? Makes flying as lerk useless and that's generally when the issue occurs.

    I jump by sheer willpower, don't need no fancy keybinds! Dat pauze/space has been the bane of profiler since day one :P

    Yeah I've rebound it to alt for the time being. I've had a few instances where I've ran into a group of marines and just paused there because i hit the wrong key haha.

    I haven't been able to get screenshots from the exact moment of the lag when attacking, however I did manage to get some last night on eclipse when it started to lag for me during most of the game.

    You didn't select the spike as I see. The selected frame is highlighted a bit and on your screenshots it's always the one on the right, not the actual spike. Use the arrow keys to select it as @IronHorse‌ said.
