Log from a glxinfo about OpenGL:
-Ideapad-Z575 ~ $ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD SUMO
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 9.2.1
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 1.40
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile extensions:
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 9.2.1
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
OpenGL context flags: (none)
OpenGL extensions:
~ $ glxinfo | grep "direct render"
direct rendering: Yes
So yes, its nonsensical why this still doesn't launch without erroring in Linux b/c direct rendering is enabled and the extra compression package below is also installed. I can play every other game on steam that has a linux version.
I cannot post a log to the game launching in steam in Linux as of this moment. Even restoring this game from a backup causes the game to update. I am trying installing the extra compression files for mesa OpenGL. The exact extension is: "libtxc-dxtm-s2tc0". This extension showed up as a prerequesite in a crash log for using ns2 ie, 'OpenGL extensions GL_S3_s3tc and GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc'.
I bought this game off the steam deals b/c I have some time in the summer. I might ask for a refund if I cannot play this on linux which I hope will not happen. I heard good things about this game prior to installing and trying to play on linux.
Any help would be most appreciated;
Thanks,
Espryon

There are known issues with the linux version of NS2 that are being worked on. (possibly even for the next patch)
Feel free to add any backtraces in this thread, and I will see if i can add this to our list.
Apologize for the issues, I'm sure it's very disappointing not to play a game you are excited for
