NS2 Linux version no longer starting after Steam update: "Steam must be running..."

I'd been playing NS2 for about a week with no issues at all until Steam released a client update today. I think it's related, not sure though. Whenever I attempt to start NS2 now I get a message that says: "Steam must be running to play Natural Selection 2". I've verified the installed files, removed all config folders for both Steam and NS2, reinstalled both Steam and NS2. Nothing seems to be working though. Anyone else experiencing this or have any advice?

After doing everything again, it's suddenly working. Not sure what the problem was, though.
