Sound skipping, cut sounds

Can someone from the dev team tell me how many simultaneous 3D sounds does NS2 use (through the Fmod)? I'm continually getting really annoying sound skipping and sounds being cut, exactly the same way as when the game engine runs out of available 3D sounds.

Soundcard is Sound Blaster Z with latest drivers which works flawlessly in all other games, output through analog out to headphones.

It most often happens with gorge healing/building "spit", but also when using other classes and weapons/attacks.

Any idea how could we check this out and possibly debug this, because it's driving me nuts (i put great emphasis on in-game sound and it has to be perfect). I've also tried using ALchemy but didn't get particularly better results...

    Yea there's a reported bug with the sound system where it preemptively cuts off sound.
    There's a maximum number of sound channels allowed (i think its like 99 but i cant remember) but sounds are cut off BEFORE this limit is even reached..
    Sometimes its just because of the setting for that particular sound file (that says it has to repeat for every user, and it gets confused etc)

    Also most ns2 game effects use 2D sounds ...
