Alright, made another nostalgia mod. The downside is that in order to use it, servers need to run it... The infestation material is protected by consistency checks
For anyone who wants to see this ingame its currently online on Wooza's Playground.
Oh you mean the guy who organized bad reviews on ns2 on steam to promote his own servers?
No, the guy who got pissed off after spending a lot of effort and money to build up a community around ns2large. And at time, those reviews were kinda valid. Im glad UWE reverted the browser tabs.
no imo its just a weird looking texture with a strong vivid color that pops out a lot because it is completely unmatched with the rest of the games color palette
(should be darker, less vibrant or purple, purple looks really great)

That organic one looks so much better than default holy crap
What made NS1 infestation look better is a combination of being lovingly placed by the mapper, not covering 100% of surfaces (pre-NS 2.0 infestation textures were made by baking a transparent texture to your texture and compressing it to 8 bit indexed palette), looking more diffuse and mold-like rather than coated in slime/vegetable oil.

TBH I actually prefer the look of those over my nostalgia mod. Mine was a tribute to the oldschool infestation with higher contrasting green, pinks and orange. However @L34D's Organic-Infestation seems to fit better into NS2's aesthetics...
The issue with infestation is still that is doesn't properly align to some surfaces, so you still end up with those weird vertical lines... And it also doesn't look... 3D enough?
In reality, the default texture looks rather good, even great... IF you play with all settings on MAX... which no one does EVER. For example if you look at promotional NS2 screenshots infestation looks good.
BUT when you play with all settings on medium/low like 99% of people do the texture becomes aweful. As if its properties makes it NEED the bloom, ambient occlusion, etc in order to look as intended. While on the other hand textures like organic and swarm somehow manage to look decent regardless of graphical setting.
But in any case, NS2 could definitely benefit from a more sophisticated anti-aliasing (FXAA blurs everything), some color correction and contrast/gamma settings...

It has had gamma settings for a while...
I'm sorry, I didn't know! You're talking to someone who is only here in spirit (on team spectator)
