[Patch 269] Cannot research hive upgrades unless view is near selected hive

I think this has been in since patch 268, a summary of the problem:
If the comm hotkeys his hive (#1 hive, #2 hive etc...) for the purpose of quick research, if he is busy supporting his team elsewhere, he cannot start research upgrades unless his view is physically near the selected hive itself. The lifeform research button simply disappears once you move a certain distance away from the selected hive (which is confusing). This doesn't allow the commander to support his team elsewhere without having to zoom back to the hive to start an upgrade.
Not necessarily game breaking, but annoying nonetheless.
