Hi , its me again with another trying on play NS2
Recently Developers have recieve from me a bunch of Error Report , but sadly i have to bring you guys CDT another "bad news"

After Black screen on WindowXP , i have try to install NS2 on my friends computer who is using Window7
The game runs with no black screen , but after play and "during gameplay" the red plug happens alot , then 15 mins later windows pop up crash
NS2 couldnt allocate #### bytes and now terminated
Its say a random chain of numbers like 20403506 bytes

I have run TechSupport during that crash and send this , hopefully Developers can fix this on next update

Honestly my patient like a cup of tea , and its about to reach that limit ..... >< I want to play this great game and invite friends buy it on Steam , but these crash, bug are killing NS2 Marketing

Issues with memory leaks are not really about the OS version but about if you use a 32 bit OS or 64 bit OS.

As your friend has 4 GB of RAM i highly recommend him to upgrade to win 7 64 bit because otherwise he can't even use his ram completely. ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier )

With win 7 you can use the same key for both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit one. You can find win 7 64bit isos freely and legal avaible via google.

Or you can download it directly from microsoft:

    Windows 7 Professional 64 with SP1:

Then tell him to upgrade because 1/4th of his ram hardware is completely unused.

I truly wish they would, severely, update the system requirements..

Your friend will have more and more problems on the long run with (new) games.
The 4Gb limit in windows 32b is a hard one as the others already explained. I dont even dare to guess how much memory he truly has left for games.

You see the max is 4GB.. Now we need to 'reserve' some of that for system hardware, as its 32b windows.. So if we reserve 1Gb we have 3GB left.
Now windows will assign part of that to kernel processes and the rest to user processes. Because I am to lazy to look it up, lets assume most positive and say 1GB goes to kernel, leaving 2GB for user programs.

Thats leaves not 2GB for ns2 to use but 2GB for all programs he runs, to use.

honestly.. there is no reason for anyone to still use 32b unless hardware being used can not handle 64bit.

Or tell him its a 13 year old OS that is no longer supported by it's maker, that he will get a performance increase by upgrading, and that he will continuously run into issues with something that only 4% of all steam users are using.

FYI, Source was a game engine released a decade ago by the world's most wealthy game developer, It's no surprise they run well on an operating system that was only in existence 3 years prior to it at the time.
