Performance issues for a short time

Hello,

my game has performance problems since a short while, maybe since the last update I don't know. Everytime when I play as commander and scroll to a different place quickly, the game lags and I get a yellow connection symbol for 1-3 seconds until I can go on with interaction. The other thing is, especially in late game when there are larger fights it lags as well. I could play with highest resolution and graphic options without any problems before.
My gear is:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K 3.40GHz
Graphics: Gefore GTX 770 2GB
Memory: 16 GB DDR3

I hope that you can help me fixing this problem. Thanks!

Sounds like the server you're playing on is choking as it can't send you all the updates it wants to send due to a low bwlimit (default is 25kb/s) setting in the server.
Type net_stats in console and check the Average rcvd. If I got it right, it will hit 25 every time you scroll. Also choke will be a high percentage for the time you lag.

It could also be a server wan link bandwidth issue or misbehaving flood detection in your router.

Try playing a round on a server with high bwlimit. Too few servers have that limit lifted so I'll shamelessly suggest The Playground for testing that. It's using 150kb/s limit.

I dont think that this issue is a server problem, I usually play on the "Thirsty Onos" servers or the YOClan server. I will try some stuff like overclocking cpu but can't believe that my 6 months old PC can't handle with NS2 anymore. This problem is relatively recent for me

The Thirsty Onos servers runs with bwlimit set to 200 kb/s. It was I who suggested overclocking because it's pretty easy to do with your CPU but it's not related to your original problem. NS2 shouldn't slow down after a while. Reinstall perhaps? ATF?

EDIT: Had a quick chat with Supafred.

Please check if your problem is like this and let us know.

Please give us data in the form of recording a game with net_stats open and try using the net_log 2 command (copy your log.txt in %appdata%\Natural Selection2\ before relaunching ns2). Paste the relevant parts (where you get the lag) here with the spoiler tag.

Is it possible you are on a windows operating system?
Windows slows down after a long time, Particularly the older ones.
the newer ones have.... automated ways to deal with that problem (that don't always work)

are all your games slowing down, perchance, or just NS2?

If you can reliably reproduce this issue please open the console (~ key) and type p_logall
Try to keep it short (less than 20 minutes ) to keep the file size down. Bonus points if you can time exactly when you have these issues so we can match them up in the log.
Type p_endlog (or let the round end) to stop it.
You can compress the file and then upload it somewhere and link it here.

You'll find the plog file in your hidden folder %appdata%/Natural selection 2/

Windows shouldn't 'slow down' just like that. There is always a reason for it, usually 3rd party related.
Then again a yellow plug has nothing to do with windows slowing down. :)
