Crash when starting a new game

So, I bought Subnautica today and installed it about two hours ago, but couldn't play it at all.

What basically happens is this: I start up the game (in Minimum mode), it opens up the start menu nice and quickly, but when I start up a new game, the screen goes black. The music just plays on for a while, before the robotic voice begins narrating, and after about half a minute the game crashes and has to be forced to quit.

Are there any things I'm doing that I'm not aware of, or are there others who (used to) have the same problem?

Are you running the weekly or experimental build?

So, in you subnautica directory there should be a log.

it should be in: steam/steam apps/common/Subnautica/Subnautica_Data/

There should a be a file called output_log.txt .

Open that bad boy up, paste the contents somewhere like paste bin and link us to it. http://pastebin.com/

should help figure out your issue.

I've tried playing the game in both the weekly build, as well as the experimental one. Currently it's still on experimental, since that's the last one I tried.

Hmm how much ram you got? Also try playing on a lower res, like 720p

I just tried playing it in 720p and the exact same crash happene.

I've got 4,00 GB of RAM.

hmm it looks like your GPU may not support dx11. try launching the game with command line args to force dx9: http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/CommandLineArguments.html

Ooh, there's something. I tried doing this with that website as a guide, but I'm absolutely terrible when it comes down to working with the Command Prompt.
Could one of you perhaps give me a step-by-step explanation on how to do this?

Go to your Steam Game Library, highlight Subnautica, select properties, then select Launch Options.



...add this line in your launch -force-d3d9



...and Press Ok, then launch the game.

Did Steam install any of the redistribute packages like vcredist, dotnet, and whatever else you may require?

You could trying to use the -force-opengl in your launch properties to see if this changes anything.

It might work for you.

This actually used to happen to me... My solution: Wait a few minutes, and don't close the window if the windows msg pops up (Assuming you're running windows)

Alright, so waiting about five minutes made the game start, but it turned out to be extremely buggy compared to the footage I've seen from other players. Textures wouldn't load, the brightness in the escape pod was insane, icons in the fabricator were really blurry, and in the end I've made about four reports on all those problems.

Is there any info on when the game will be released for Mac? Because as soon as that's out, I'll probably be able to just play it on my Macbook instead.

Ok this sounds crazy but try running it windowed mode and then resizing the window a bit when it seems to stop. And turn off the dx9 or OpenGL command args.

I tried doing this, but as soon as the game stops responding, it locks the size of the window.

Work after add -force-d3d9 in launch options, not work dx11
