I am getting a new server in for my colocation.
I am upgrading to the following spec
2x SIX CORE X5650 2.67GHz
32GB DDR3
4x 160GB SSD
2x 500GB 15k
I was thinking on running ESXi on this server and breaking it off to smaller boxes. However due to the nature of NS2 i am considering doing a 2012 r2 box and then simply segmenting off smaller portions directly from windows usings Hyper-V for smaller games that need to be managed by others (not NS2).
I have a very strong preference for using VMWare since I use it extensively professionally.
Anyone have success running NS2 virutrilized?

What do you plan to run with that considering you actually manage to get it to work? :-O
ignoring my spec, has anyone run NS2 virtualized?
Somewhere on this forum someone mentioned trying depite it not being possible and basically it was unusable. Too slow.
I would disagree, a lot of admins are basing that off of 2+ year old "data" (forum posts about the issue) and older processors. However, yes the thread author here needs a more modern processor if he wants to have a more stable server.
My E3-1230v3 can drive a full 24 slot server all day, every day with no issues.
