guide to securing 2 hives fast
I was very tired last night...tired of loosing. I was playing as a marine with various commanders and all we did was lose. Like 10 games in a row. I became very determined that I was not quiting for the night until we won once. The main problem was fades rocking us. I know ther are other ways to stop fades but i've always been keen on prevention. I didn't command this win but I gave the steps to our commander.

We were playing on ns_eclipse and our goal was to secure 2 hives as soon as possible. Steps to success.

1) he plopped down basic structures 2 ip's turret fac wiht 3 turrets in triangle gaurding armory and thats basically it. time to move out. While we did this (kinda cheap i know) he listend over the hives to determine their start. They started at maintenance access ( we prtty much knew from the direction/time of the rush)

2) all marines moved in tandem through triad gen (passing it) straight to eclipse once there we took out the res node there and put on of our own. Shortly followed by an armory.

3) when armory finished we all got ammo and left 2 guys there who got some mines eclipse was easy to lock down as three at the north door adn three at the south door covered quite well. Plus there were 2 marines in there to fight off any not taken down by the mines and replenish them when blown up. Hive 1 secure in minutes

4) the rest of the team (about 3 people) headed to computer core a short treck. while doing this the squad at eclipse up up a res node in triad with mines on the ground at its base ( i haven't tested this but i believe two placed opposite eachother will stop a lone skulk from taking out your collector)

5) we get to computer core and it too has a res node as well as a gorge and an offence tower 3 marines took it no problem. We wait fending of a few skulks that seemed to know what we were doing. there wer a few attacks at eclipse nothing to horrible for the 2 defending to handle.

6) we then set up a fully functional base at computer core getting an observatory turrets and mines phase gates at all 3 bases and also took the station access alpha node. With nothing morem than skulks we were collectiong plenty of resources ( we had to rebuild on occasion.) and the aliens did a grand job almost taking computer core back (down to the phase gat and up powerd turrets) but we prevailed

we held eclipse with very minimal resorces we only eventually built turrets becase of the spectator bug an alien that was **obscenity** at our mines blew them up all the time.

that is all.

Good idea on securing Hives... I'll try this as soon as I get the command chair

Don't all marines use this strategy? As long as you have at least 4 marines to command, I would highly suggest this, or something similar to any marine commander. Early capture of the hives is paramount to a successful marine strategy. If you think Fades are bad now... wait until you see what happens when you hit them after the patch and Bile Bomb's structure damage is fixed.

lol, yes, this is good strategy...but 95% of commander will spend the first 5 minutes securing the spawn with like 8 turrets and then the next 10 getting turret farms up at the nearest nozzles....O_o

i would hope that experience would slowly wisen them up to using the better tactics, but i dont think most of them will ever change...what is practiced is performed/bad habits break hard

yeah turret farms are soooo horrible. Especially when a commander puts one at EVERY resource tower.

But what happens if the aliens consistently rushes you at the start? Preventing the majority of your team to move out, assuming that the aliens are capable of picking off 2 or 3 before dying?

I did the same thing on Eclipse, but from the other direction. Kept moving fast, not wasting time turret farming, hitting the aliens hard every time we encountered them. Victory as a marine tastes oh so sweet.
