DNA splicing

Kind of seems a little off. I was under the impression that Subnautica was set in the NS2 universe, before the Kharaa were encountered. (because altera corp and because the welder looks like an earlier build than the one in NS2 ^^)
In any case, injecting the player with stuff from the creatures seems pretty magic-bioshocky. I can see DNA being scanned to completely analyze a creature and make the computer tell you "these and those parts of this creatures are useful" so you can gather some ressources from them and in some cases inspiration for better gear. I am not completely opposed to the player being spliced a little to make him more suited for the really deep depths (say to avoid diver sickness), but some of the stuff seen on the google spreadsheet ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uVuPsNHe9f_NtYZZoLFFqVJt49nEG_UvbhUoSHIn2ro/edit#gid=770068203 ) put a Spacemarine to shame. Not a NS2 rine... A freaking WH40k Spacemarine...
(also: yea, I already commented on the thing, but it just now sunk in a little what that meant for the feeling in game)

If Subnauticas guy is coming back, he's just gonna walk straight up to the ALL the hives and just bitchslap em. Humans can do mutation too, buddy.

This is not NS2's universe, and frankly, thank god for it-- I'm tired of human Vs. alien spinoffs (though, that's not saying NS2 is a bad one or it copied directly from other sources, I just am tired of Humans vs. Aliens in the SciFi universe)

Splicing DNA... it sort of is in the game already, they have a bit of groundwork for it but it's not really implemented. They do have the item which pulls DNA from creatures, which is the Transfuser but it remains to be seen exactly what is going to happen with this particular part of the game.

I think this is what the game should focus a lot of its attention on. I hope this won't just be a "side mission" esque activity so to speak, and if it is, I think there should still be substantial rewards for doing so.

Well pulling the DNA from creatures is one thing. Just go analize it and with it the creature and everything that's interesting about it.
Splicing yourself with it is a whole different story.

    Edit:

Well then just both universes have the Alterra Corporation. That aside, what does it matter. I highly doubt you are gonna fight off skulks. Your terraforming vessel got zapped by a "mysterious energy pulse". If there was Kharaa around (in space and/or time) you probably wouldn't go terra forming there and if you would, it probably wouldn't be all that mysterious.
