Base customization at first. What we already have is great and promising. So we need more room types, more tools and equipments to put in. Being stranded in the unknown, the first need is a settlement.
Base Customization. Since currently the Submarines are already a great alternative to bases, I think the bases should get a boost so they are a more suitable environment with advantages over a mobile base such as the cyclops. Otherwise the submarines sort of lose their purpose along with the bases.
Base Customisation is definitely the most important thing for now, as it can keep players occupied for a long time.
Right now, bases are somewhat useless, except for storage. By providing incentives to use them more often etc., e.g. by introducing the moon pool, players would engage more.
One thing that may be needed is an automatic beacon for the base, e.g. one contained in the power generator. That way, people wouldn't forget where their base is any more.

Ahoy Scanian. Basically agree with you there especially about throwing customization options in where possible. Indeed they work best as a larger storage option atm. I would say they are a bit above somewhat useless as I really like using them as small outposts (staging areas) in current form, but they are definitely limited for now. Rooms and specialized rooms are coming down the pipe though so a big hurray for that, as I think it will be a huge gameplay boost and selling point!
Regarding beacons, I agree you should be able to set those for bases as well. Since beacons are going to be such a significant part of the game, I'm hoping that we will be able to toggle them all (from a beacon menu of the pda maybe?). I definitely think they are great but otherwise they will just clutter the screen eventually and sometimes it is nice just to turn them all off completely when desired.

I personally prefer if we could add more upgrades, addons, and/or customizations to the ship itself. I find myself going out exploring for days (in game) and only returning to base to drop off unwanted stuff or supplies since you pretty much need to constantly be on the lookout for supplies to make batteries atm.
Though having a better and rechargable energy system would make me use the base customization much more often and make it be more useful.
The base is important because we're going to be here for a long time. We need to get comfy and the base at present is very utilitarian.
Upgrading all the subs is also important, possibly adding more options in the way of specialised subs.
As far as personal goes, I feel it is important to do something about it but much of that will come from the other upgrades anyway.
Character customization so we can pick two different genders and skin tone, etc. even though base customization is important we should customize our character
I feel like having minimal character customization (i.e. gender pick, skin tones, hair) and much, MUCH, more base customization. I pointed out a while back that after the player builds the Cyclops, bases become obsolete and pointless. They need something extra for the player to actually leave the comfort of the mobile submarine to set up somewhere. Make the player WANT to build instead of simply saying "well, you could build a bland network of very thin tubes with windows you could barely see from."
Just according to how much possibilities there are, base customization is the most important. And since sub upgrade console will probably be available soon, they don't need that much attention for a while.
Character customization isn't that important for the game experience. Ability to choose between male and female is the only feature that I think is important, but it's not high priority or anything.

I picked "Base Customization Customization". :P

Yes for the integrated beacon, though I could live with the beacons only, if we could name them and/or assign an icon.

Also, love the crash update. Really fun.
Base, Cyclops and subs, personal.
