G’day everyone! I just had a call will Dillion (WasabiOne) where he talked me through the current status of the NS2 Community Development Team (CDT). Dillon is one of the...

Bump to open comment thread, and thanks @WasabiOne for taking the time to chat with me EDIT: Quote from mighty @McGlaspie that is relevant to the post: McGlaspie said: Just a wee little update. I've got just about everything sorted out with the CDT's new (from scratch!) Build System. Full NS2 builds are being created on the new setup, but I've still got some bugs to work out before I can push to Steam. Getting pretty damned close :) Before anyone asks, sorry but no, I don't have an ETA. Which is one of the pains of an all Volunteer team...we have to take the time that RL gives us when we can get it. The name of the game for me right now is ASAP. More news soon, stay tuned.

nice to see an update :)
I think that will go a long way to opening up the CDT process. There will no longer be a behind-the-scenes version and a public version of Natural Selection 2 – Everything will be public, all the time.
not sure if i understand this correctly, will there be few official patches and constantly updated "beta" patches? if not, how does this integrate the playtesting part, as in: how do you ensure not to accidently release game breaking bugs etc.?

He means that the "beta build", which gets tested by the PTs, is also public available for anyone else as steam beta branch. We wouldn't ever push not tested and by the PTs signed off builds to the public release branch.

I just wanted to note that this is just a idea we are playing with (CDT internally) atm.

So don't be too disappointed if we don't go that way.

Good to hear from the pr rep who never cared to learn the game. Gets tiring to hear the public representative of the devs mention how he's unsure about the mechanics in every video hes put out. (Havent seen any recently but sometimes you just quit watching stuff you used to be curious about) Just let someone from the CDT handle these updates

Amazing work guys! Who would have thought that years down the line we would all still be so in love with ns2. Much love @flayra

The CDT should hurry up pushing the next update. Otherwise they will just find a dried up wasteland and all the BM work was for nothing... Last time I checked there were about 12 servers with players on, about 3 with a (for me) playable count of 14 to 20 players and none with a playable ping. Also Woozas soaking all remaining players into its idiotic 42 and 32 servers. At weekends, 20 pm CET...

Wasn't there a policy against naming and shaming?

Oh, never mind. He's scapegoating Wooza's. That runs in parallel with our double standards. Give the boy a promotion.

There aren't other 32 or 42 slot servers, so there isn't any ambiguity anyway?

On the topic of policies, I think there is a policy against alternate/sockpuppet accounts. Throwing stones from glass houses and all that.

There are two other high population servers out there that I know of. Another European and one American.

I'm not blaming Woozas for the dwindling playernumbers, in fact they might keep the newbies around for a little longer. The cause is elsewhere to be found (mainly its age and staleness). However Woozas is a double edged sword like Comp Mod was in NS1 back then. If you would split those servers into 3-4 you'd give far more people a chance to have an enjoyable match and at the same time might help keeping other servers alive. I think we had this 42-server-yes/no discussion already and came to the conclusion that its too late to do anything meaningful... What I'm trying to say is, that NS2 will die faster the less players it can retain and with die, I'm thinking about going extinct... It already somewhat reached the numbers of a HL2 DM (which might outlive NS2)
