Just for a laugh I thought I'd see if I could build a cylinder vertical corridor from my underwater base to a observatory dome above the water. It worked! >.<

Glad I didn't save the game though as I can't get my building gun thing close enough to dismantle the above water parts

You can dismantle it like this:
1. Build a hatch on top of the tube
2. remove the ladder
3. go outside through the hatch and remove the rest.

This only makes me want to build a ladder up through the middle of an Observatory.
