Hi,
just because the player can eat something, it doesn't have to be exactly like needs, because it's a game. So maybe it could be entertaining if:
- If the player should be sort of limited in movement range from the habitat, there could be a need of energy. For example sleep on the floor refills it 70%; sleep in a furniture refills it 100%.
- Usually when eating the body grow etc., so in the game it could be like when the player eat a particular fish, then it gets a particular upgrade. For example maybe harder armor etc.. Especially they player should need (different eatable upgrades) to go deeper than 30 meter ...
- When the player drinks it could also be the energy thing instead of sleeping, it could also be to produce different kind of temporary power stuff like swimming fast or vision in darkness or radar of dangerous animals.
