It's advised to arm your sub with flash frag bomb torpedos. Once they explode in a giant flash of light and a small water shockwave, they leave metal fragments behind to attract all those metal eating critters. This should give you a minute operating time before those demons seek for new metal.
Unfortunately the lava depths is full of rich metal and therefore full of those metal eaters living there.
Further advice on the metal eating fauna if you ever meet them: Try to develop and craft metal free vehicles. Even with disadvantages they at least allow to operate in metal eating environments.
Awesome idea, Zetachron, about those torpedoes, but do we have the resources to craft nonmetal subs? Silicone instead of titanium? But I need all the quartz on the planet already .
