Was watching this deep sea exploration channel on YouTube and I saw some videos of a natural phenomena called brine pools. They are misty saltwater pools at the bottom of the ocean that have become so salty that it will not mix with the regular ocean water surrounding it, creating a toxic underwater lake which kills any creature who wanders into it.
Got me thinking how awesome a huge brine pool zone would be in Subnautica, could fit in well with the vehicle/suit upgrade system.

Stay too long in the area, and it starts to corrode the hull of the Cyclops or Seamoth. Nasty.
Better keep that welding torch handy, just in case.
