It's probably what's known as a cold seep. It's a place where chemicals trapped in the earth such as methane and, more specifically, hydrogen sulfide, leak through into the ocean bottom forming a brine pool that is, ironically, warmer than the surrounding water. It just so happens that this one flows and is filled with sediment.
