Night time light...

After watching the Lunar Eclipse the other night, I was struck by how bright it was just before the eclipse, and how dark it was during. I easily see the bottom of my pool (12 ft) during the brightest, and not even 1 ft deep when the eclipse was happening. As Subnautica develops, I would suggest adding a lighting model for a moon (or multiple moons, as it is an alien planet) that could vastly change the night lighting scheme. Multiple moons (of various colors) would change how the oceans are lit, and the phases of the moon(s) could be utilized as well:

2 Moon Setup
  • dual New Moons = no lights (0%)
  • 1 waxing & 1 waning = light of 1 Full Moon (100%)
  • dual Full Moons = maximum lighting (200%)

Sounds good but you would want one or multiple moons to give off natural light in whatever phase during that night. But then we are asking for cloud cover and such. So I think it will be a while till this comes into play. It also depends on how close the moon(s) are to the planet if it is in fact a planet. It could very well be a moon or planet that is orbiting another planet or moon. Size matters with light reflection as well. So there is quite a few complexities that could go a long with this. I wouldn't want them to really get into this till they bring out the LED lights and such that they are working on.
